- Wouldn't it be more appropriate if Windows Live Writer was an online web-based word processor with the added feature of being able to post to Windows Live Spaces or another blog? I don't even see the point of developing Windows Live Mail Desktop as a standalone email client. It's an upgrade to Outlook Express, but that somehow doesn't really seem to gel with the whole Windows Live initative. Shouldn't more stuff be Web 2.0? Isn't the new Windows Live Mail powerful enough to replace Outlook Express?

- No. If it's web-based, it'll be much easier to type a blog entry from the blogging software (i.e. Wordpress) itself. Keep in mind that some people prefer desktop applications to web-based (2.0) applications. Loading times for desktop applications are generally faster than some non-productive, laggy AJAX Web 2.0 apps.. Keep in mind that standalone products like Live Writer would be a small application.

- WLMail is ONLY for @live.com addresses.
As for an online Word processor, that's what the Office Live part of Live is for. -

No. It works for any Windows Live account, including @hotmail.com. -

you need to get new sources of information, as ryan said hotmail.com/co.uk work with windows live mail
you can even buy a domain ie myfrigginemail.com and have it use windows live mail by signing up on domains.live.com and then changing ur domains mail server dns

I suppose those are the features you miss to read after that sentence.

- From http://inside-live.com/:Quote -Now I used Windows Live Writer to make my previous post, yes straight into WordPress! It scanned the site, sadly didn’t pick me up as using WordPress. But no fear! It has a handy manual configuration which scans your site, including Comments, Categories and Posts. It then scans your theme. When it has finished grabbing all the necessary info from your site, it introduces an eansy WYSIWYG editor, complete with the theme in the background. You can even configure many settings like Comments & Trackbacks on & off and that.
I also have a copy of the blog post due to go live tomorrow @ http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com. It will tell you all the features and more avaliable to you.
On Monday, it will be released as an Open Beta, avaliable to anyone. It works with a wide variety of Blogging software, however I only tested it with this copy of WordPress. It also works with Live Spaces (of course) and other blogs. It will ususally pick up your blog’s backend…. if not, it has an easy step by step set up.

- What are the chances though it has another huge banner ad up the side like the rest of the Windows Live line

I agree though that the name suggests it to be an online word processor. -
#8.1 Posted by mrmckeb on 13 Aug 2006 - 13:33
- You do realise that these adverts are what makes the products free, don't you?
-
#8.2 Posted by krimewavery on 13 Aug 2006 - 14:11
- Yes yes, but ultimately it does ruin a program, Opera for example, I'm sure was hindered on it's uptake with it's "Buy Opera today and make this ad go away" campaign. I suppose though it's the way things go. Rather than a huge banner, surely though specific text ads would be of more use to the end user and the advertiser due to a higher relevancy...

- I bet at MWSF '07, Steve Jobs will get on stage and announce a new version of iWeb called "iWeb Blogger" that "works with all major blogging sites." Whenever you publish a new article with it, it will play a funky animation showing your message scrunching up into little bits, travelling through a series of tubes (or maybe dumped on a big truck) on the way to the blogging site, where it will get reassembled.
He will also explain how it is a "revolutionary new feature" and that Microsoft "will copy it in Vista."
And the Mac faithful in attendance will, almost by reflex, pull out their wallets and type their credit card numbers into the Apple Store.

- Honestly guys, the spell check feature would be EXTREMELY beneficial for the unprofessional journalists' front page news postings. Live Writer would probably be the best thing happened to this site since 2001.

Add to Windows Live

Beau Giles creator of Inside-Live.com is the only known person (that we know) that has this new software from Microsoft. He gave me a few hints, but was not the person that I found out it was Windows Live Writer from. He also gave me a screenshot, but I don't know if it is the real thing:
It looks (maybe) like a screenshot from early builds of Windows Live Mail Desktop. When we get any more news from/about Windows Live Writer, we'll let you know. That is all we have now.
