Intel informed its channel partners in Taiwan that it plans to stop manufacturing four desktop-use Pentium D processors (model numbers 830, 840, 930 and 940) by the end of 2006, according to channel sources.
The latest date to accept orders for these four Pentium D CPUs is set on December 15, 2006, with the latest delivery to be done on March 9, 2007, the sources said, noting that Intel also promised help distributors in clearing inventories.

Edit: and the article mentions they are releasing a new Pentium D 925
That would be nice, but they still have people using older boards that don't support Core 2 processors. You also have Dell, HP etc that have tons of motherboards that are no good for Core 2 as well.
i love my pentium d 940
and my mobo i think is not compatible with core 2 duo
