- Offering me a link is fine, but don't force it in people's faces by automatically including it.

- It seems kinda cheesey to have them on the welcome screen.

- People will gripe if the links are on the desktop too, so does it really matter if they are on the welcome screen?

- Just like they hate all the links that OEMs put on the desktop when you buy a new computer. First thing I do after using the restore disk is spend an hour uninstalling all the preinstalled crap.

It might be an idea to obtain an oem copy of your windows install cd then
it would be legal aslong as you use the cd key from the windows licence sticker on your comp.

- Great so now Vista will come with Adware. It's just making less and less incentive to upgrade to Vista, I would probably stay with Windows XP or if Microsoft arn't careful, I could switch to a Linux Distribution.

- what's wrong with advertising your own product on your own operating system?

- Even in the gold version of Windows XP, a balloon ad for the .NET passport pops up right after you start XP for the first time.
That was a pretty effective method to trick the average consumer into thinking this somehow enhances XP's internet experience. But for sticking download links into the Welcome screen... that's not as intrusive.

- i did not realize the OneCare is capatable with Vista. I have been a BETA Tester for OneCare and i have always read that this will not be intended for Vista.

On the Welcome Screen in Build 5506, Microsoft is including direct download links for Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live OneCare, Windows Live Toolbar and Windows Live Desktop Mail, according to screen shots of a Vista Ultimate 5506 build obtained by Microsoft Watch.
