Hot on the heels of Windows Live Messenger (WLM) 8.0 which was released to the general public just two months ago, the Windows Live team over at Redmond, WA based Microsoft are already preparing for the next version.

Windows Live Messenger is the new name for Microsoft's instant messaging client (formerly known as MSN Messenger), which came out of Beta just 2 months ago.

Prepare for Windows Live Messenger 8.1. Microsoft has begun sending out invitations to potential Managed Beta testers, and it is expected the Beta will begin very shortly.

As yet, we are unaware of what the new version will include.

Sorry, I needed to update this after I submitted it. It looks as if invitations have only been sent to Windows Live Butterlfies (not even people who were in the Windows Live Messenger 8.0 Managed Beta),

If you are not a Butterfly and didn't get an invite, you could get apply to become a Managed Beta tester by completing this survey

A beta butterfly - It's a test version of a butterfly that Microsoft have made with Nanotechnology and artificial intelligence

Also with the ability to 'cut and paste' and inform the world reguardless of any NDA. Post in the Newsgroups about anything not pertaining to WLM and then whine at the end of the test about the 'Wheres My Gift'...waaaaaaaaaaa!!!
#5 .Ali on 25 Aug 2006 - 11:30
omg 8.1 already they just came out of beta
#6 Osirls on 25 Aug 2006 - 11:33
I'm on it, no download yet.

It's probably just an improvement on a few minor bugs that they didn't fix in time for the release of WLM8.0.
#7 Guol on 25 Aug 2006 - 12:29
Yay...Beta Butterflies all the way
#8 LeeŽ on 25 Aug 2006 - 15:16

lmao whats that? sounds like it will be abused so much if i think it is what it is
#13.2 jwjw1 on 25 Aug 2006 - 20:23
I think 80% of the people using WLM are children abusing it already...LOL
#13.3 chris4 on 25 Aug 2006 - 20:41
(Look on mess.be) There's a tab in Messenger that has a child report button, incase of perverts.

It won't get abused, because it tells the police, and if you abuse that, well...

that was my point, if your talking to some random person and they dislike you they can press it and claim you are abusing them.

furthermore if it records the messages and sends them on for proof, it will still be abused, people will press it millions of times and eventually there will be so many fake alerts that the police wont be able to filter through them
#14 jwjw1 on 26 Aug 2006 - 03:07
Then the Police will start making easy money...by 'charging' people for false reports

So now you're a tattler as well eh? WOW

So let me see if I have this correct.

You diss a very hard working group of testers, and then expect no sort of backlash from one of those testers?

So should I report your post since it was an attack on Butterflies, of which I have been a member since the group started? Or will you just admit that you were being extremely juvenile about the whole situation?

You're an absolute git. Seriously. What the hell is wrong with you? You miss the second round of sarcasm so I guess I'll just admit it now for your sake -- I'm apart of the testers so, so get a grip and loosen up moron.

whoo - got my butterfly email today - couple of days late, as usual

- enjoys being a butterfly :p -
#18 DBGARZA on 02 Sep 2006 - 21:53
I got the mail too but I'm not a butterfly, in the mail I got it says: "Dear Windows Live Messenger Beta Tester" I have been tester ever since the first beta of WLM including the beta of the WLM/Yahoo interoperability so guess that's the reason I got the mail too
