- I've got this board and it's brilliant.
Except for one thing, which I don't know if they brought this up in the article. The system I built had a 200gig SATA HDD, two PATA HDDs, and a DVD RW. The problem was that you connect the two PATA HDDs into the primary IDE slot (blue) with the cable which is documented (and blue also) for use in this slot... says it's a HDD cable etc which is perfect - nothing at all wrong with that.
However, the other IDE cable (which is labled and documented as a CDROM cable) which you would assume goes into the other IDE slot is then useless... as what you'd think was the secondary IDE slot is a raid controller that doesn't support ATAPI devices...
As such I had to plug the two PATA HDDs into that and had to pop the DVD RW into the primary IDE slot where you really want the hard disks to be. Now, to me this is a nuisance I was able to work around... but to less able people building a system this could be a real pain. Especially when parts are labled and colour coded so those who are maybe new to building systems will lead you to the wrong conclusions.
But otherwise, like I say... this board is bloody brilliant
Love it! -

- Yeah, that was a huge annoyance to me. I wish the IDE slots were at least closer together, it seems clear the preference is on having SATA drives. The orientation of the primary ide slot is unusual also.
Overall I'm pleased with this board though. I've got it paired with an E6600 and overclocked to 3 ghz on the retail HSF. My temps are 36c/96f cpu and 42c/108f mobo. What are your temps? -

- Ahh, so that is the problem! I also had the same issue with the DVD drive connected to the second IDE connector.
Awesome MB though, E6400 + big typhoon + P5W DH + Team Xtreme 4-4-4-10 = 3.2ghz no problem 1:1 FSB 1600.
Only played around a little before work today, have to play a bit more after work today.

- I love this board.
The only issue I encountered when enabling Power on after power loss it would power on but wouldn't start my 7900GT. Had to pull out the battery (which is placed below the video card :@ ) to get it back working.
About the IDE cables, well um, a picture is worth a thousand words:

- Heh, yeah its a bit of a ****** when it comes to trying to keep things neat.
I hooked this board up to my new Thermaltake Kandalf at the weekend and it looks a bit messy.
This is probably down to the connectors location from the case itself and the plugs on the mobo.
However it's an awesome motherboard, and although I'm only running an E6300 on it at the moment, i'm sure when I upgrade to a E6600 it'll be lush.
Oh and my Geforce 7900 looks particularly nice...
Kind of closeup...

- i got this motherboard and im very happy with it, except for the part where i cant lower the cpu ratio to get more out of the fsb...anyhow i hope it will be fixed with new bios update...other thing that bothers me is the motherboard temp. mine is alwayz between 46~49C, which i personally find too high given that my cpu idles @ 25C and under 100% load is @ 31~32C...
Oh btw here is a pic of my setup...

- This is a decent mainstream mobo for core2...
...just so long as you are willing to spend over £100 for it.
However you wont be sorry, its a truly class motherboard.

- I am having trouble with this board in that Vista won't install since I replaced my old motherboard and processor etc. XP's fine (what I'm using now, even) but Vista gets stuck at crcdisk.sys on install and disk.sys on trying to boot Vista (if install is started in XP for example).
I've even updated the Bios and SATA controller's BIOS... I'm not looking for an answer you understand... Just lamenting my lost Media Center

- @ CDOG - i have the same exact problem with this mobo; or almost. i have: 1 sata hdd; and 3 ide hdd's (no internal dvds). i installed the first two ide hdd's into the first recommended slot, and the sata hdd to the sata 1 slot. so far so good. but the 3rd ata disk won't install in the second ide connector, no matter what jumper trickery on the hdd i try. BUT - right after post, there is a short message displaying the name of my 3rd drive (that doesnt show in bios) - the message is on for a fraction of second and i wasn't able to pause/scroll lock it. anyway, the point remains, i cannot get this drive to work, and i'm really afraid the mobo could have taken it for a raid and deleted everything (? - please prove me wrong, i have no experience with raid, nor have i changed the bios' raid settings...).
for any help thanks a lot! :]

This latest version is also very different from previous 975x motherboards as it seems to be designed to accommodate everyone's needs. And when I say everyone, I actually mean everyone that is willing to splurge $250 on a motherboard. So for those that can manage the price tag, they will certainly enjoy all that this motherboard has to offer. Designed for the new Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors, the P5W DH Deluxe has a number of features that make it suitable as a workstation, a gaming platform, a small office/home office computer or the hub of a home theater system.
