Barring more bugs, Firefox Beta 2 will release Thursday, Mozilla Corp. developers reported after a weekly status meeting held Tuesday.

"We are on target to release Thursday, Aug. 31st assuming no stop-ship items are discovered," the meeting's online minutes read.

Beta 2 has been delayed several times to give developers more time to quash bugs in the browser.

Mozilla also said that users running earlier previews of Firefox 2.0 -- including any of the three alpha editions as well as Beta 1 -- will be automatically updated to Beta 2, using the software's built-in update mechanism. Previously, users had to download the full installation package to refresh their browsers.

maybe the firefox delay will stop the endless vista-bashing....
just ignore my comment .. feel free to use whatever you want

(just give me IE7 )

Do you think we would have IE7 if it weren't for Firefox? Competition helps drive innovation. I'm happy to see products competing against Microsoft in areas they're monopolizing. It causes the people at the behemoth to get off the arses and produce better products. So get over it, software is just technology tools. As a professional developer and rabid consumer of technology software, I for one want better tools.

If you look at the URL, you'll see that it is a release candidate of the beta, and isn't the official release.

Oh, My bad!. Seems quite stable here though

Choose your language here:

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.or...es/2.0b2/win32/

If it is in the "releases" folder it's official

Can anyone tell me the advantages of FFv2 over the FFv1.5 that I am using? Memory usage is what I am more concerned about...does v2 consume less?

On these "betas", I prefer the zipped version than the installer. I've spent a lot of time getting 1.5x setup
the way I want, only to have the newer version, screw up something. I like the zipped versions. Unzip,
try and dump if you don't like it.

"Mozilla Firefox Beta 2 Expected Today". Today seems too extreme. Might as well wait the few hours before posting a consolidated news article instead of 2 articles on the same day about the same event.
