Why do you even care whether your post is first or second? Is there something that I've missed... is it a competition?

I really do NOT give a crap what you use as your primary OS. Are you cool because you use Fedora? This is about Vista RC1, not Fedora.

In a Vista RC1 post .. oh nooooo i can see your point. not.
Linux geeks should shut up for a sec. All the Vista geeks are currently wanking themselves.

Hoping to see it soon on MSDN

Please bit-torrent it, MS servers are going to get slow soon :-(

Will this be like Beta 2, free for all?

*crosses fingers*
#6.1 Julius Caro on 01 Sep 2006 - 19:01
Yup, in a few days it should be public

MSDN and Technet will be next week, presumably Tuesday. The fully public release could be (and likely will be) longer.

O_O just installed 5536.. well here we go!

I just hope everybody who can run X64 does so :o
#10.1 jungle bill on 01 Sep 2006 - 19:35
I will be installing both x64 and x86, drivers for x64 still need alot of work... just wish the 3rd party companies would get their finger out.

Well, I would run x64 if it was possible to disable the integritycheck (which it currently isn't in RC1). Having to press F8 and select an option on the bootscreen every bloody time I start/restart the computer is a nuisance beyond words... Damn, it's like a daycare OS with that enforced and can-not-disable integritycheck. Thanks hollywood, you keep restricting what we can do with our own computers.

(yes, Hollywood is the reason so nobody can use 3rd party/hacked drivers to watch movies while bypassing their HDCP/DRM-crap)

Finally some action
(4 replies) #13 Chicane-UK on 01 Sep 2006 - 19:27
Damnit.. I want some of this action for us normal mere Beta2 people who don't have access to connect
#13.1 Bobster on 01 Sep 2006 - 19:32
me too!
#13.2 Chicane-UK on 01 Sep 2006 - 19:41
According to the linked MSDN blog we should get our hands on it in a week or so's time.. fair enough really.. gotta let the proper testers pick through it!

Still looking forward to trying this build out. Might even dare putting it on my pc proper instead of XP so that by the time RTM comes out, i'm fairly familiar with Vista..
#13.3 Chicane-UK on 01 Sep 2006 - 19:45
The worst thing is knowing you have key that will work and is legit.. its just the actual ISO you need! Nevermind! :|
#13.4 Afroman on 02 Sep 2006 - 12:51
well, i seem to be having a problem with my MSDN key for 5536, i just have not called to get it activated.
hopefully we get a new key, instead of using the beta 2 one.
#14 CavityCr33p on 01 Sep 2006 - 19:31
I hope my ATI 9200 mobile radeon will work this build, because it wont with 5536.

hmmm, anyone know when peeps who got beta 2 in the mail will get rc1 sent to them?!
#17.1 primortal on 01 Sep 2006 - 19:51
If your a beta tester you got an email asking if you wanted the DVD. If you got the public beta 2, you'll have to wait for the public RC1 to see if you get the DVD.

Guys post your impressions I hope this ca run as smooth as XP on my system. So that I can keep this rig till next summer.

AMD Athlon 64 3800+
2GB DDR400 Dual Channel
Seagate 200GB SATA 7200RPM
XFX GeForce 6600GT 256MB GDDR3
...

Do you that a PC with the below specs will run Vista and games as good as on XP?
#23.1 parithon on 01 Sep 2006 - 20:17
Everything should be great for you with those specs... the only snag will most likely be for your mass storage device.
#23.2 Smigit on 01 Sep 2006 - 20:40
no, of course you cant run Vista with those specs....

Well, I'm drunk, too... But if you can still read, you should have noted that you can register at connect, but you have to be invited to the vista/longhorn connect program...

So just wait until it pops up on msdn/technet or as public rc1 probably sometime next week..

Cheers

nice...

Release Candidate 1
Should be major-bug-free, no new features should be added to an RC, I think... (not sure)

navigating and using the web cant be that hard

Release Canadit 1 - Potentially could be final build (what is sold in a bo depending on how well received it is. But it will go up from there (RC2, RC3...) until a build is acceptable.

Have fun beta testing this bad boy out for me fellahs! I won't go near it until SP1 comes out in about a year .

Not according to Microsoft, and that's a bit confusing. As this one was released, Allchin says above it's not a candidate for release despite being a release candidate.

Confusing, and not the business standard use of the term, but that's Microsoft for ya.
