Apple to launch movie store, new iPods next week?

Tuesday, 12 September is the big coming out day for Core 2 Duo-based iMacs, new generations of iPod and iPod Nano, and Apple's iTunes Movie store, it has been claimed after Apple began mailing out invites to the media to come along to Cupertino or attend a London-hosted simulcast of the proceedings.

A satellite transmission to Europe isn't a common Apple press conference strategy, suggesting Tuesday's events will indeed be something special. Sources cited by website Think Secret claim, however, that the unveiling will not include the much-anticipated widescreen, video-oriented iPod that's been cropping up on online rumour sites since March this year. The report reckons we will see new, higher capacity Nanos all in multiple, metallic colours. The 5G iPod is simply getting a boosted storage capacity for the same price, it adds.

I would like to see the 5G iPod available in 60 GB and 120 GB models. If they managed to keep the same price point ($299/$399), that'd be even better!

I like the 5G iPod range, they're definately the best so far. I've had my iPod 5G 30GB for months and haven't had a single problem with it. And they look great

All rumours, no one actually knows what Apple is going to announce. I do love their press conferences, they're nearly always a surprise.

Once again, everyone is jumping on the rumour mill, and when the time does come and none of these things surface people get angry.

Then we have media outlets over-hyping things.

Poor Apple.

Isn't it that if a press conference is held at Cupertino, it is likely it isn't going to be that big? Sure it's being simulcast via satellite to another location, but would that be just to please London journalists?

The thing is, that everytime apple is doing one of these things, most rumors turn out to be true...

would be a bit weird to launch a movie store without the widescreen iPod. Anyways lets see what happens

I hate Apple rumours... we all know that Jobs would murder anyone that leaked information - it's just not Apples' Style.
As for the Movie Store... yeah we all know it's coming. New iPods? Definately coming... But why post an article telling us what we know?

If these rumors turn out to be true, it would be a relief since I *almost* bought a Nano on Friday.

I almost bought a 60gb 5g the other day. Wouldn't mind seeing different colour schemes for the 5g - like customizable wheel colour, face colour and back colour.

They look cool at the moment, but surely it would be more personal and feel like your ipod, instead of just an ipod like everyone else.

I really wanted a U2 coloured 5g, but in 60gb and without any of the sigs on the back (not a great fan of U2, just looks nice). This could be the answer, although Im not too hopeful.

As soon as the 20" iMac (Core 2 Duo) is released, I'm buying it! I've been waiting for this.

Although these would be cool, having read the rumor sites for a while they are often (but not always) wrong in at least some way.
