- i'm waiting on Office 2007 Tech Refresh now!
wo0o0o0! first comment!
had RC1 for a week and i would have to say it is a big improvement. However, there are still quite a few bugs that MS has to work out. -

- Yeah, I'm also waiting on Office '07! I use Office all of the time!
Yay RC1! -

- If you go to
www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx
About half way down the page is a link to 2007 Office Beta 2 TR. It says you need to upgrade to the Refresh to work on RC1. -

- i just did went there and downloaded Office 2007. but its not the TR.

A technical refresh of the 2007 Office system Beta 2 is needed for those interested in using it with Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1). If you want to run the two products together, we recommend coming back at a future time to get the technical refresh.

I, for one, can install Office 2007 Beta 2 just fine on RC1. Just have to deal with the black text in the titlebar when the windows are maximized. -

that's what i thought but it is getting closer. on one of the pages, it mentions that Office 2007 professional is 550MB. Beta 2 was 440MB so it looks like TR will be 550MB. Probably just getting the pages ready like they did with Vista RC1Quote - Timothy003 said @ #1.3

I have had no problems installing Beta 2 on RC1 either. There are a couple of bugs that I thought might be addressed in TR. we'll have to wait and see.

- It appears you need to use MSIE to download this.

Ignore me. You can download in any browser using the alternative links on the Download Page. -
#2.1 Posted by virtualmadden on 06 Sep 2006 - 22:09
- You can download either way on any browser, you just need to go to the downloads page first instead of the direct links on Neowin.

- you can use your Beta 2 key.
Connect testers were told to use their beta 2 key (which has been used for many other builds as well)
-
#8 Posted by Crucify on 06 Sep 2006 - 17:43
- Yeh the OMG link is not where you get a key, wonder if we are to use the beta2 key? I havent recieved a new email from MS stating otherwise.
-
#9 Posted by SeBsZ on 06 Sep 2006 - 17:44
- The OMG OMG link is of no use. No way to register for a key. It does, however, have this to offer:
If you registered for this program in June, please look for a recent e-mail message from Microsoft (sent in early September) with information regarding RC1. If you are not registered but would like to receive Windows Vista RC1, the CPP will open to new participants in the coming weeks. Please check this site periodically for updates

- I had my key from the Beta 2 CPP, in fact I've used that same beta key to activate not just my CPP aquired Beta 2, but interim builds as well as the RC1 I obtained before it was available to CPP users.
IMO the CPP, Connect, MSDN, and the like are all staggered for no other reason than to try to limit the damage bandwidth-wise for Microsoft and keep their various tester groups happy. If you had people trying to download Vista via Connect as well as CPP, Connect users would understandably be upset about their low(er?) transfer rates. MSDN is the same way. An MSDN subscriber (or their company) has paid Microsoft for the ability to download prerelease versions of software, and they sure as heck don't want to share the same bandwidth as the unwashed CPP masses. -

- It's been available since Friday for Connect users. If you were in Beta 2, you should have your key. Or, click the "OMG OMG! Where do I get a key?" link.
The title isn't misleading.
-
#22.3 Posted by Ravensworth on 06 Sep 2006 - 19:14
- The "Where do I get a key" link is useless. There are no new keys, so saying this is available to the masses certainly seems misleading to me.

- you should receive a new key in an email wiith RC1 info if you activated Beta 2. going through customer support just wastes about 2 weeks and they just say "we cant offer new keys" even though you have told them several times that you have registered and should be on the database.
stupid ms

- seems like this will be the last and only RC for vista.. i saw it on the vista website.
i have geen using RC1 now as a major OS or lets say the only OS on my pc and i am using a clumsy very old 2002 model pc. everything is running fast and stable not one crash so far. i have geen using it for 4 days now and was badly messign with the drivers.
its amazing that everything is my outdated pc seems to work fine except for the sound decive which is driving me crazy.. as for everything else its working faster than it used to on win xp.
well lets hope it comes down all fine to the final release by then i might get a top of the line desktop computer by january.
back to my main point is this really the only RC to be released before the final ?

- x64 version Sucks
"How come x64 is so horrible? Does Microsoft want Apple to make it look silly again? Those foolish enough to install an x64 version of Windows Vista will become pretty surly when they realize none of their applications will work, none of their existing drivers mean diddly-squat anymore, and, most humorously, that x64 PC you bought probably doesn't support more than 4 GB of RAM anyway. OK, that last one isn't Microsoft's fault, but seriously. It's all part of the malaise that is the x64 "ecosystem." Said by Paul Thurrot -

What sucks is that companies have had WinXP X64 for 16months and yet still haven't sorted out 64bit drivers properly. That's not MS' fault

- I'm sorry if this has been asked but what do you do when you don't have a Beta 2 key? I am one of those 100,000 that downloaded the pre-release. I've managed to install it without a key but would like to obtain a trial key until June.
Anyone know how?
Thank you very much,
James.
Ps. You may answer in a PM if you like but here - in a quote - is fine as well. -

- EDIT:
You may wish to monitor this forum on Microsoft's official boards:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowFo...9&SiteID=17
There are both a "I Need Product Keys" thread and a "Lost activation code" thread, but unfortunately also "We no longer have Vista Product keys available" which is their last word on it. :-(
Which is why I recommend monitoring that forum. If they don't have Beta2/RC1 keys still, they may start a new round of deliveries there later. :-/
Their RC1 announcement says there are currently no keys to get there though:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPo...5&SiteID=17
Another option is to upgrade your Beta 2 install, if you have one. Maybe it won't ask for keys then?

It didn't ask for a key upon installation - well you didn't have to give one - but now I have 14 days to activate my Vista. Ah well, I'll monitor that link.
Cheers. -

- Are these ISOs meant to be publically available or did someone with access to them just snag the URLs and put it like M$ made them freely available? I don't see much sense in them being available publically for every joe shmoe to download them without being able to obtain a license key (yet).
-
#39.1 Posted by M2Ys4U on 06 Sep 2006 - 21:31
- They're properly publically availible, just like the pre-RC1 builds and beta2.
If you got a license key with beta 2 (you didn't need to activate) then you can use that for Vista. -

-
#42.4 Posted by Richardo on 07 Sep 2006 - 00:01

For those of you who are brave enough to update: Before upgrading from Beta 2 to RC1, please install any Critical Updates from Windows Update for Beta 2. Go to Start, All Programs, Windows Update, and click the “Check for Updates” button.
