Bug fixes, performance enhancements, etc.

Not a whole lot that you'll notice. Everything is pretty much locked down now for the most part. They'll be adding some small things but primarily focusing on fixing the bugs and getting it all running smooth as Hurmoth mentioned.

Can anyone explain why the x64 version is so much larger than the x86 version?
Quote this comment #2.1 Posted by jameswjrose on 22 Sep 2006 - 18:03
Wel, because 64 is twice as large as 32

(sorry couldn't resist the obvious matt joke)
Quote this comment #2.2 Posted by BBinder on 22 Sep 2006 - 18:05
because it requires extra code to make it fully 64bit

If I don't remember enitrely wrong I think it's mostly form more included drivers. but also partly from applicatiosn and stuff that exist as both 32 bit and 64 bit for compatibility. (like WMP and such)

That's what I am thinking too.

x64 also includes all of the 32-bit versions of executable files (*.dll, *.exe, etc.) for various important reasons.

downloading 800kb/s right now so I'd say the servers are ok.

Here is the big question that will be asked several times so I'm going to get it out of the way.
Does this build use new keys?
Quote this comment #4.1 Posted by ShawnB on 22 Sep 2006 - 19:37
According to the newsgroups you use the same key you used for RC1

Any word on whether there are better support for RAID drivers, especially nForce RAID?
Quote this comment #7.1 Posted by Meacham on 22 Sep 2006 - 21:36
this has been raised with Microsoft and nVidia. There are people complaining about not being able to load the RAID drivers and others where, they install their OS and when it gets to 100% it tells it cannot load the HDD's which is rather odd.

Be sure to report problems here: http://shellrevealed.com/forums/19/ShowForum.aspx

Microsoft is monitoring and answering questions there as well as asking for people's input.

WTF? Do a little research before calling someone a spammer next time, pal.

"Dave Vronay, a research manager with the Windows User Experience Compliance team, says Microsoft is taking a lot of time to track down minor UI glitches - something it has never done before. "You can actually participate in this process by providing your feedback on the various pre-release versions of Vista we are putting out," says Vronay. The company is hosting a forum in which users can offer their rants and raves. You can also leave your thoughts below."

Spam? Do you even know who Rob Howard is?! Do a simple Google search to see how he's related to Microsoft (and most likely helping the shell:revealed team).

I tried fetching this last night, and it wasted 2.6G of my life... it downloaded then complained it failed the MD5sum. And then when I told it I didn't want to restart, it just up and deleted the ISO so I couldn't check manually.

Is this a common occurence? 5600-x64 transferred fine first time out.

Is anyone else having problems installing on vmware? Setup is not detecting the disks (IDE or SCSI). MS has got to be pretty braindead to break vmware twice in a row.

Yea same problem here, latest VMWare Server version, it won't detect the harddrive.

- no more install errors
- onboard sound works
- the tilting windows thingy works again
- no crashes so far

This should have been the true RC1 build, but oh well progress = progress.

I would almost use Vista, too bad Mirc + SSL doesn't work
