According to the folks over at AppleInsider, Apple will be releasing a Red version of their 4GB iPod Nano tomorrow. The release is intended to raise funds for 'Product Red', an initiative aimed at eliminating AIDS in Africa:
"Both the U2 frontman and the famed talk show host will publicly unveil the new "iPod nano Red" -- a 4GB version of Apple's second-generation iPod nano in a red anodized aluminum enclosure -- on national television this friday. The two celebrities swung by Apple's North Michigan Ave. retail store in Chicago, Ill. on Thursday afternoon to film a promotional segment for the cause, which will air on tomorrow's edition of the "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
Apple, which has agreed to price the player inline with its existing 4GB iPod nano models at $199, will donate $10 from the sale of each unit to the Product Red charity."

So you've met him and while doing so, read his mind. No? Then grow up.
Anyways, this red Ipod thing looks like a good idea and I hope it does well.
Why would I need to have met him for my opinion to be valid? That would basically eliminate all criticism, which goes against the notion of freedom of expression. Also, I expect more from someone in your position than sniping marks like "grow up". Feel free to criticise any points I make but please do so in a mature manner.

I completely agree. People just want to complain about something.
Sorry, but that's not the case. Apple increased their profit margin with the last product refresh by an estimated 20%... so despite donating some money on this one model they are still making a profit on each unit and getting cheap advertising. That's not the act of a company trying to help the world - that's the act of a company trying to improve their bottom-line and their media image.
Feel free to believe the hype but there will always be people like myself to point out the reality of the situation and it isn't as rosey as people like to believe.
well they could but bono probably takes the other 189.99
[EDIT] It is now.

Isn't it easier to donate the 10 bucks directly without having to spend on the ipod? Anyway, at least something is going to the foundation, which can't be bad...
