If you are contemplating a PC purchase but concerned about waiting for Windows Vista, don't wait, said Microsoft officials at the DigitalLife conference here.
G. Michael Sievert, corporate vice president of Windows Client marketing at Microsoft, opened the DigitalLife conference on Oct. 12 with a keynote in which he laid out the company's plans for the rollout of the Vista operating system and the surrounding ecosystem of hardware and software that will support it.
Supporting Sievert in a demo role, Justin Hutchinson, group product manager, Windows Client, said "one of the things that lights up Windows Vista is the ecosystem of products that support Windows."
Indeed, said Hutchinson, "close to 100 percent of the PCs on store shelves today are Windows Vista capable."
Later Hutchinson said that about 98 percent of the new PCs being sold hold the "Windows Vista Capable" logo and a smaller percentage of those are branded as "Premium Ready."

I am waiting for Vista to go to the SP1 or SP2 stage as well, but I am not going to let a game or other application dictate when I should buy my next OS especially at the rates they insist on charging.
Isn't it a little soon to be making a snap judgement on when people will buy Vista?
When Vista is something I actually need, then perhaps I'll consider it.

so are you saying you still listen to Tapes or so and find no need to switch to CD cause ther is nothing compelling about Cds.
Just like windows XP we all or a good amount of us didnt care about XP when it came out because windows 98 did it all well XP may do some stuff Vista does but Vista may do the same thing better and or differant and better. i plan to switch right away for the fact is we dont know when or IF MS will roll out a SP1, What would happen if MS didnt roll an SP at all in the Vista time frame and by the Time the relased Fuji Vista SE or so and evan Vienna you are still on XP now what would you do IF no SPs were relased. as another neowin user siad in a topic SPs are not the end of Fixes cause ther will always be fixes to windows never 100% secure never 100% bug Free but if you look at Vista when RTM is out and finale it just will be a better First roll out then any previous Windows and will be what Microsoft always touted every single windows OS to be .
Anyways patience its a good thing
I create maps, and websites for my local district authority and 2k is still fine for me. Why should I upgrade to Vista?
