There are confirmed reports that Windows Vista build 5808 has been released to TAP (Technology Adoption Program) customers, it has also been suggested that testers will not get this build on Connect and it's unclear if this is a pre-RTM build shipped as such. Interesting to note is that 57xx was designated the RTM branch, there is no further information on a 5744 to 58xx jump, or what it implies.

Jim Allchin cleared up conflicting reports to eWeek by saying that Windows Vista would not make RTM this week, adding that there was still work to do "We won't RTM (release to manufacturing) in a week," Allchin told MJ Foley on October 18. "We are in pretty good shape. And there are still months before (the January 2007) launch."

These are the build stamps:

Interesting......

I'm going to guess that the 58xx tree will have stuff like the new sounds and bootscreen in, as it was implied that this stuff would be added after the last connect build was released

hope this becomes available to rc1 testers like the last builds as a downloadable ISO.

You won't see any public releases before it RTM's.... That's a fact. Build 5744 was the last beta/rc/cpp to be released to testers/public.

I would suddenly feel the urge to fresh install... again. it's bittersweet isnt it?

oh, would this only be an upgrade if it's true? no full installs?

Any new screenies yet?

ISO sizes seem to have come down somewhat...
Quote this comment #6.1 Posted by mram on 20 Oct 2006 - 19:02
What do you honestly expect to change between RC2 and now to warrant "screenies"? Do you really want a screenshot of the 5808 number?

The reason the sizes go down is because as they ramp up to final, any/all debugging code is removed.

Quick question. Why post the names of the files?

Could it be so that people know what to look for on other sites

TAP builds aren't typically leaked, so I doubt it matters.

Not leaked? Pfffft.

is there a direct download for this yet.
Quote this comment #8.1 Posted by SHoTTa35 on 20 Oct 2006 - 21:56
what you didn't read? It's realeased to TAP testers so you wont be getting it. TAP is an even more exclusive set of testers.... if beta testers (all 500,000 of them) don't get it you really think they're gonna have a public release?

Vista RC2 is the last build.

What is that supposed to mean? It's illegal to post a filename also now?

Perhaps they don't want people searching for it online.. and downloading it from somewhere else...
