Microsoft appears to have published Office 2007 and Vista keys to Select licenced customers.

Along with the keys is a download entitled "Windows Vista Enterprise English Disk Kit MVL ISO CD". It's not quite clear what this is but since the download is 2641MB you can only assume it's Windows Vista Enterprise Edition. The download was published a few hours ago.

We are currently awaiting a response from Microsoft and will update shortly.

Update: Microsoft have now pulled the download but the keys remain. Updated with screenshot of what was. A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that Vista has not yet RTM'd but is unable to explain the odd appearance of Vista Enterprise.

Yea it is. licensing.microsoft.com
#3.2 bmaher on 02 Nov 2006 - 20:25
the actual direct link to the select licence is: http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/programs/sel/default.mspx

To be honest, this wont actually affect many people here :p

#7 Sniper101 on 02 Nov 2006 - 20:38
Urm i have a VLK should i get the Email :s Eh even if i do im not downloading it...

I only bought a VLK as i have about 10 PC's in this House lol and i wasn't prepaired to Use Different Keys and activate them over and over again i can't keep track of My Product Keys so simple VLK
#8 vetSleeper on 02 Nov 2006 - 20:44
There two type of key being issued for select customers.

Vista KMS

Key Management Service: this key will be used to enable a new service in your environment that will automatically activate Windows Vista computers. You must have a minimum of 25 Windows Vista computers connected together to use the KMS, and all computers will be required to check back to the central service twice per year to stay activated.

Vista MAK

Multiple Activation Key: this key will activate Microsoft Windows Vista through the internet or telephone, and have a limited number of activations associated with them. Computers can be activated on an individual basis or by a central computer which can activate multiple computers at a time.

Why are they give Business customers special treatment? I would expect the demand for Vista for Business to be extremely low. I personally can't see why anyone would use Windows for anything remotely important. It's a massive OS, and there are manly complaints about it's new ways of handling security. Is there really any demand for it?

The reason that they give business customers such special treatment is that large international companies can start testing Windows Vista on there PC's. Large companies have a large testing procedure before implementing Windows Vista.

Microsoft is faster with the RTM than I thought, now let's see how the new OS will work and how fast the IT world will respond.

ultimate better show up on my msdn is all i know
#11.1 admaxey on 02 Nov 2006 - 21:25
It won't... Just Vista Business for MSDN. Unless you're a member of Software Assurance... Then you'll get Vista Enterprise as well. None of the other editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, or Ultimate) will ever be posted on MSDN.

I was disappointed too, but I sort of understand why they're doing it.

Not sure where you got your information but it is incorrect. MSDN will get all versions of Windows Vista with the exception of Starter Edition.

MSDN is for developers not production therefore everything is supplied. Every version of Windows has always been supplied (except a few such as XP Starter Edition but that was because of its target customer base) on MSDN and I have received no indication this will change. If it was to change I can imagine millions of developers around the would will kick up a huge fuss about nothing being able to test their applications on all versions of Windows Vista. Imagine someone developing a multimedia application for Home Premium but not having access to Home Premium on MSDN. It ain't gonna happen.

What has changed though is how volume licenses are handled. Only Business and Enterprise versions will have VL versions. Home, Home Premium and Ultimate will all have to be activated just like retail versions. However this has been known for a while.

AFAIK, Enterprise is alone on the DVD.
#13 depeschie on 02 Nov 2006 - 21:03
give it 1-2 days for some torrents
the most interesting question is, how long for the right crack..
#14 pyro7469 on 02 Nov 2006 - 21:08
If Ballmer offically declares Vista is in fact gold, I hope that its is deployed to MSDN asap.

Are people who have a Technet/MSDN subscription allowed to give copies of full OS'es to friends, family, etc? Just wondering.

In the screen shot the URL is for XP, SP2.

If they did put the iso up, they pulled it down pretty fast.

Yup they pulled it down quick and it went to XP SP2

We have the school agreement VLK and have access to our keys for Vista and Office 2007 but the download isnt listed yet.

From what I am reading, software asurance customers can get Ultimate too? One page that mentions this is http://blogs.msdn.com/mssmallbiz/comments/869917.aspx
#19.1 +cheesegoduk on 02 Nov 2006 - 22:10
Sweet... I hope that VLK's do get ultimate as well (Also a school) as I'd like to have it on my work laptop.
I'll pick up our keys tomorrow morning
#20 boogerjones on 02 Nov 2006 - 22:17
It'll be interesting to see how the men of the deep seas go after Vista with it's ubiquitous activation.
#21 TheReaperMan on 03 Nov 2006 - 00:10
yeah , just checked my select account and there both showing(keys that is), can not wait for the download, hopfully i will be able to use ultimate

A quick question, guys...

Ultimate > Enterprise, right? Or does Enterprise contain some features that aren't in Ultimate?
#22.1 boogerjones on 03 Nov 2006 - 00:47
Ultimate contains more features than enterprise.

Yes, but are all Enterprise features contained with Ultimate? I know all the media stuff is in, but are all the security capabilities of Ent. in as well?
#22.3 boogerjones on 03 Nov 2006 - 06:25
Yes, the Ultimate version contains all the security features of Enterprise. The only other difference that I'm aware of is that the activation methods are slightly different between the Enterprise and Ultimate versions.
(1 reply) #23 Audhumla on 03 Nov 2006 - 00:54
Hm. Some companies use unique physical USB keys as an activation component. Very difficult to fake, highly effective, easy to use.
#23.1 boogerjones on 03 Nov 2006 - 06:28
Also quite expensive. And for popular software, hardware dongles can be easily cracked. Microsoft will not ever do this.

any screenshots ? new sounds ? boot screen ?
#25.2 boogerjones on 03 Nov 2006 - 06:28
Possible, but not likely. It was posted for a short time only.
#26 _dandy_ on 03 Nov 2006 - 16:50
Thing is, Vista hasn't RTMed yet, so whatever got posted, wasn't the final bits that'll end up on the installation CDs anyway.
