At least five more G80-based graphics chips are on their way from Nvidia, if entries in the latest driver package to leak out of the GPU maker's labs is anything to go by.

According to an NGOHQ report, one of the files inside the ForceWare 96.94 package refers directly to the G80-200, G80-400, G80-600, G80-850 and G80-875, each with a unique ID code

Online reports have pointed to a single G80-based board on Nvidia' near-term roadmaps: an unnamed (for now) board due to ship in February 2007.

ForceWare 96.94 supports the new GPU and was provided by Nvidia to hardware reviewers as an alternative to the 96.89 drivers that are included in boxed GeForce 8800 GTX and 8800 GTS boards.

I'd be very interested in a £150/£160 mainstream 8x00 GPU, in fact, I'd be putting one in my new build.

Orrrrrrr multiple cores

Baptist, what would you get from a dual core derivative of the G80 that has 128 unified shader processors per core that you would not get from a single core derivative of the G80 that has 256 unified shader processors?

The only thing that I could see is lower efficiency, in terms of power consumption and performance due to all of the extra redundancy that would be needed to make it work.

I dont see it, they dont usually release higher versions so early in a product life, the dual gpu cards only come near the end of 7xxx series life.

May I ask if it's worth getting an 8800GTX or GTS now? I was going to get a 7600 as a temporary VGA card until it's time to get a 8800.

If you can afford to do so. I have the GTX model and it rocks.

[off topic, sorta] is a 7600GT faster than a x800gto (512mb)?
#6.1 Imnotrichey on 14 Nov 2006 - 19:06
i've been told the 7600 gt is roughly equivalent to the x800 xt

which i believe the x800 xt is faster than the x800 gto ...so i'd say it is slightly faster

this is all off the top of my head without double checking and/or researching so please correct me if im wrong

Plus $199 for Vista Home Premium or much more for ultimate. That is if you actually want to use those DX10 features. Not that there will be any games that use DX10 until this summer.
