Thanks Andareed who posted this news in our forums, yes thats right MSDN users need no longer to wait.

Initial reports are that this is different from the leaked version that has been available for about a week on all sorts of torrent sites, the hash is different:

en_windows_vista_x86_dvd_X12-34293.iso = b71e04564ca22e4d9928e59298eff87cf62b382b
LRMCFRE_EN_DVD.iso (BillGates) = b82590481755ba3420e7314bf82b8916a90963b5

This single download includes the following Windows Vista editions:
  • Windows Vista Business
  • Windows Vista Business N
  • Windows Vista Home Basic
  • Windows Vista Home Basic N
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • Windows Vista Starter
  • Windows Vista Ultimate
The product key used to install Windows Vista will determine which edition will be installed. The product keys used to install Windows Vista Business N, Windows Vista Home Basic N, and Windows Vista Starter are not currently available.

Also US testers may find an invitation to download any version of Vista final they choose (a product key is then supplied for the version specified) my source tells me that international users will start to see this appearing on their connect page within the next day or so. It's unclear if every tester will get a full version of their choice. We'll update this when Microsoft gets back to us.

The only difference between billGates version and MSDN is that at file offset 0x4E932855for BillGates, the bytes are 0xFD while it is 0xFF for the MSDN version. So if could be just a packing error. If u change the bytes, u get the same hash as the msdn version.

It is Microsoft. I submitted *critical* bug report for Visual Studio 2005 at launch time, and their answer was that the bug was already fixed but it will be released in the next Service Pack of Visual Studio. This service pack is still not out yet. (If it takes the same time to put the service pack out as the one for 2003, we still have 2 years to wait).

I installed the AIO from WinBeta (running the 30 day trial currently) and I wonder is there is a difference between the two versions? How could one tell? I don't think that because there was a hash mismatch means that the versions are different because even Microsoft admitted that the BillGates version would become obsolete (meaning its probably legit if they mentioned it). Any way to tell the exact build numbers? If someone installs this one, please post your build numbert

First imake that leaked almost couple of weeks ago into certain FTP servers is identical to this MSDN version. Billgates rip was made from that, they did something to migcore.dll and install.wim so the CRC is different. And again WinBeta release is identical to MSDN version. So only Billgates was bad.

They do, all versions of Vista are exactly the same far as I understand, all your really paying for (or in this case been given) is a serial key that tells the installer which parts of Vista to install. This makes it much easier for MS to patch Windows as there is technically just one version of it and it makes upgrading easier as well, e.g. if you buy Vista Home and decide to upgrade to Vista Ultimate you just purchase an Ultimate upgrade key from MS then just update your current key and throw in your Vista DVD and your install will be upgraded for you. (I think that is how it works?)

lol it doesn't work that way, mate. You have to of been an official MS (Vista) BETA tester and submitted at least 1 bug report. Unless you have done that (which seems doubtful) the only way your getting Vista is waiting till 2007 like the rest of us. The only other legal way of getting a free copy of Vista is either been an MSDN subscriber or if your a student at a University that is a MSDNAA member.

Winbeta and Bill gates are not the final code. That is the difference. One last bug had to be fixed before releasing on MSDN and Connect. Thats why it was delayed a week.

And of course the Bill Gates version and MSDN dont have the same hash? Even if it where real. Why?

Because they are two different builds!!!!!! Bill Gates version is a Windows Vista Ultimate and MSDN is Windows Vista Enterprise Edition build. So of course they are different. But that does not matter since both WinBeta and the Bill Gates version is not the final code.....

So those of you using either version I highly recommend you uninstall right now and install either the build from microsoft connect or MSDN. Or just wait a few hours for both to make their way around most P2P and torrents sites. Takes awhile to upload....

Sorry, those last bugs were quashed by the end of October. 6000.16386.061101-2205 is the final version number -- look at the numbers closely. It went into escrow and was not touched again after Nov 1....

The reason the WinBeta release differs is that it is a custom, hand-made AllInOne job of attempting to mesh x86 / x64 builds onto the same DVD. Rumour has it that the x86 / x64 ISO images used to create the AIO are the same as those on MSDN now.

Whilst the WinBeta "version" does seem to be sourced from finalised code, personally, for a primary OS, I'd prefer to have a "legit" ISO from MS thanks

It's the Ulitmate key problem. If you don't want ultimate, go to 'product keys' along the bar at the top and then select to generate all the keys for vista bar Ultimate and you'll get them.

You can install a product key up to 30 days after, so use the RC2 key and then change. I think that'll work, i'll try it later because I'm still only 56% down on the d/l!

I know. But the DVD contains all versions. It is the key that defines which version is installed. Anyone knows if, when no key is entered, all options of ultimate are available.
My problem is this : I installed the Vista Home Premium edition for testing some software. However, this edition can NOT join a domain, which is a major problem for me.
On the other hand, I can install the Business edition, but this one lacks the multimedia thingies which I need for testing. So.... (And I do not understand in the first place why a home premium edition is not able to join a domain. Weird way of thinking from microsoft...)

Hm... maybe because home users don't have a Windows Server also at home to run Active Directory and domain.

Home is for small workgroups only and business is for domains.

If you want everything install Ultimate. If you don't have the key yet, just click next when asked for a key and select that you don't want to enter a key at that time. Then select that you want to install Ultimate.
This will work for 30 days. I'm sure that Microsoft will have fixed the issue with the Ultimate key by then.

The ironic thing is that Neowin is vaguely encouraging warez now by giving everyone the name of the warez copy of Vista RTM. (in case they didn't already have it) Good thing you guys tell people exactly what to go search the torrent sites for, especially considering I get freakin warned for even implying I was USING the same copy you just mentioned above.

What a joke.

It would be helpful to everyone if you actually were consistent with what is and isn't considered warnable because I sure as heck don't have a clue.

I am sure you're going to go ahead and tell me how "this is different" because you're making a point, blah blah blah, but guess what? It's not. At all.

Clik,
Do you use the Microsoft downloader? Guess then you can resume.
But..; ooooooooh then I see : probably you cannot connect anymore due to overload of the servers :-)

Nah, I was downloading fine at a steady 150-200kbps and when I last checked I got thus:

It's not reconnecting either. Guh.

Argh! Got to 90% now can not connect. Why didn't Microsoft release this as a torrent (using their own Passport Login controlled tracker). That way the only load on their servers would be the initial tracker queries and the initial seeding of the ISO. Once it was in the wild enough, they could simply stop seeding....

With the Vista Ultimate key from MSDN - On how many systems can you install with the same key?

I can't remember for sure but I think it's 5 machines.
But they are all for testing purposes anyway, not permanent use, so they kind of expect you to be switching it around from machine to machine.

It used to be 10 activations for MSDN OS's, but this may have changed with Vista. I wouldn't worry too much, we have individual MSDN licenses at work, but were only using 1 set of license keys. We have a copy of XP which must have been activated over 50 times....

The keys for the Ultimate Edition of Windows VISTA ARE AVAILABLE FOR MSDN SUBSCRIBERS
