Nvidia's launch of its DirectX 10-compliant GeForce 8800 GPU (codenamed G80) earlier this month seems to have failed to significantly stir up demand for high-end graphics cards, although the new chips took a lead in 3D computing processing, according to sources at Taiwan-based graphics card makers.
Since the G80 is preliminarily targeting the high-end sector, the sources pointed out that Nvidia's forthcoming G84 and G86 GPUs for the entry-level and mid-range segments are likely to play a key role in the GPU market, with the two new GPUs expected to debut in the first quarter of 2007. Although details of the G84 and G86 are still not available, Nvidia has completed the roadmap for the two chips, with local graphics card makers likely to receive product samples in January or February of next year, the sources stated.

I'm just waiting for a nice highend mobile dx10 card
My thoughs exactly...
It actually probably doesn't [have anything to do with the price]. Bleeding edge gamers (what the industry likes to clump into a group called "enthusiasts" ) have always been willing to pay premium $$$ for the latest greatest fastest hardware. Look at the P4 Extreme and the Athlon FX line of processors. WAY overpriced but still being bought by those with too much money and not enough sense. It's all about the e-schlong baby! (Perhaps Weird Al should have done a parody about that! )
Why buy a $650 PC video card when there's no real value added from it curently? Hell, just buy a PS3 with a few games and you can get more use out of that for about the same price.
