Unknown to some people and not widely advertised by Apple, there is a battery recall in effect for 15-inch MacBook Pro's that were purchaced between February and May of 2006. Symptoms are not specified in the exchange program, but Apple does note that the affected batteries do not pose a safety risk and that you can continue to use the battery till a replacement arrives.

The battery recall resembles all the others, the batteries are provided at free of charge to the customers.

I am sure this has been going for a while and does not effect all models anyway.

Found it, the recall started on the 16th June.

surely the batteries do pose a safety risk afterall they are recalling them, what it some time soon a battery explodes while someone is typing apple would look rather stupid after saying they dont pose a safety risk

You clearly haven't bothered to find out what the actual problem is with the batteries. Just because they have a problem doesn't mean they'll explode.
Mine kept cutting out, even when fully charged. Never exploded on me once :p

I don't think it is actually a safety risk. My battery was broken. It swelled up creating a non flat surface on the bottom of my laptop, and also would only power the laptop for about 5 minutes before running out of juice.
