With Windows Vista up and coming, makers of motherboards and VGA cards are now worried they will incur losses from their inventory of low-end products that do support Microsoft's new operating system (OS), according to industry sources.

The makers are now raising the proportion of shipments to emerging markets and government purchases, worrying that if they are unable to clear their inventories of such low-end non-Vista-supporting motherboards and graphics cards, prices of such products will plummet after the new OS hits the market, the sources said. The sources pointed out that non-Vista-supporting products, such as the ATI Radeon 9250 and Nvidia MX4000 have seen their prices fall to US$35 and below US$30, respectively.

I have a Radeon 9250 in one of my PC's, it might not support Areo Glass, but the rest of vista runs perfectly fine. It would be fine running vista basic, or starter, which don't have some of the more advanced features.

That's a good question.

I don't feel sorry for them. They've known for 5 years that Vista was coming out, and during the last year or so, the minimum hardware requirements have been known.

It's high time time such low-end hardware stopped getting introduced to the market and got phased out.

Damn, when my friend had an MX he couldn't play any games at all. He got a GF3 off of ebay and it ran circles around it. I don't why they are complaining though. Aren't these cards several generations old now?

Who cares?

It's like people whining that new motherboards don't have ISA slots or serial ports. If you have old crap components, don't whine that you can't run the latest and greatest OS, and if you make these components... well, too bad, it's the semiconductor industry, not furniture, keep up.
