Tech Dude writes on Back Page News: On December 14 we introduced a new home page for Microsoft.com. The new page incorporates months of research, testing, customer feedback, and refinements. We hope the new page makes it easier to find what you're looking for on Microsoft.com, and that you find new items of interest along the way.

The new page makes extensive use of Ajax navigation, with pop up styled windows to browse Microsoft's related products and technologies. Youi can view a list of commonly asked questions about the new style at Microsoft here.

52 requests 263kb for one page? damn!
But still a nice design.

I much prefer the old page, though the new design is certainly not terrible and I like the navigation box at the top right.

I'd put some Google Ads between the main picture and the little black bar, and in the right margin, so they draw some extra revenu...

I don't like it at all. It's a lovely design, it's just not very practical. I mean the rollover menu is a joke, it takes a good half a second to change to the one you highlight (even after it's fully loaded).
I also don't like how a giant ad takes up 2/3 of the screen (And this is on 1280x1024 resolution).

^Ditto that, but it's not too bad.

I like it, looks like Vista generation or something.

I think that was planned to have it that way. It is because the old one, when ever I selected something my mouse would slip and select another. No problem now cause they made it wait. Some people may not like it.

Click the menu item instead of waiting for the hover to take effect.

It's slow, it's "adtastic" and it looks like it was made in 10 minutes.

It is amazing that they even let that get out of the building. For that to be the front page of the website for the largest software company in the world is a joke, at best.

It's proof they really don't have any idea what they are doing.

I guess it's Microsoft proving that they really are what they appear. Advertising and revenue before usability and progress.

You are forgetting that you couldn't make a website if your life depended on it, so quit your bitching. Their worst employee is still 1000% more knowledgeable than you which is why you don't have a job there.

Donkey.

That looks horrible. Look at all the wasted screen real estate on the top and the right, not to mention the unnecessarily huge main banner. And black and light blue are not good color combinations.

Whoever did usability testing for this, should be fired!

Nobody saw you offering up suggestions to better the site. But once again, here you are bitching when it's done.

Tosser.

LOL, I didn't even know MS was launching a new site. Even if I did, it's not like I'm getting paid to make their site. It's there f'ing job to come up with a good design!

i just hate this kind of links

http://clk.atdmt.com/MRT/go/mcrssvse0060000198mrt/direct/01/

it contain adlinks mostly blocked by my hostfile or adblock so in the end it makes m$ site useless in some sites
#16 Octol on 16 Dec 2006 - 04:48
Looks OK to me. Pretty easy to find what you're looking for and to get there. That's the point, I guess.

What a bunch of total losers.

You 'poster kids' are, generally, totally clueless about what you are talking about, other than it gives you an opportunity to display your ignorance to the rest of the online world.

Criticism is great. But cheesy stupidity. is, just that.

Get a life.
