Scoble’s Blog: Buzz Bruggeman just called from Seattle. He says that Microsoft’s main campus is without power and trees are down all over the place due to a major windstorm there. Tons of trees down. He says he’s talked with several Microsoft employees and that reports are that folks can’t send email and stuff like that. It’ll be interesting to see what’s running tomorrow. Over on Blogs.msdn.com I saw a few pictures of the damage, sounds really bad.
Mike Hall of Microsoft says that his office has power.
Jeff Sandquist says he hasn’t had power for four days.
TDavid has some pictures of the tree damage.
Jeff just called from Microsoft’s campus and says that there’s power there, but everything else around Microsoft is a mess. He doesn’t expect to have power at his house for a couple of more days. Cell phone coverage is spotty due to the power outages.

He says Microsoft has a pretty decent generator system on its main campus, but did lose power on Friday morning, but is back now.

I'm surprised Microsoft doesn't have it's own power plant, running Windows of course

They do. RTFA.

I don't think a few generators can be considered a power plant. Anyway, it was a joke.

Major Nelson's blog was also saying the same.

Well, and this is only the beginning. If things don't change right now (and they won't, too many stupid people around), within one or two generations we won't even be able to live on earth anymore. Welcome to the future

But no worries, I'm still going to buy Vista next year.

within one or two generations the main things that cause these problems (oil, gas and coal) will have probably run out.

I doubt it's a major problem, since everyone is winding down for Christmas now, but seriously does no one watch the weather at Microsoft?
#5.1 Swordnyx on 18 Dec 2006 - 15:55
Lol guy, you can't change the weather, even if you know it's coming.

First Apple and Now Microsoft! :o God must be ****ed off with them both!

Hmmm... I don't think God uses Linux, either.

M$ PWNED BY GOD!

It's those Yakuza-KGB weather machines again. The same ones that knocked out New Orleans to drive gas prices up. Sony is ****ed about the PS3.

Just joking. But Google that info, there are some people that honestly believe these weather machines exist.

Seriously, you people are idiots. Power has been knocked out for a lot of washington state. Does that mean your so-called "god" hates everyone that has power gone? Entire cities are without power. It is the fricken stupid infrastructure that thought leaving above ground power lines are a good idea instead of moving them underground.

MS has a power plant on campus and even sells power back to the grid. They have also been extremely helpful in getting things up around the area.

And yes, it is a major problem for all the families that are without power and won't see it for 7-10 days in some areas. Many places don't have heat, and the pipes are freezing.

Seriously, Neowin has degraded in terms of not only overall article quality, but the quality of the people posting. I am gone. And I am glad to be gone.

Gee... Grow a sense of humor, please.

Oh. You are gone, and won't see my advice. Nice "drama queen" final post you have.

Good riddance, I say!

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I can see how some people wouldn't find the situation in the Northwest funny. Hundreds of thousands of people without power, several people dead because of fallen trees...

But you know, if you can laugh at the situation, power to you.

I was born in raised in Minnesota. Snow storms knocked out power. They even kill some people. Should I no longer tolerate jokes involving snow or blizzards?

Possibly explains why the KB was down and out when I was trying to search it earlier!!
#10 +Ely on 18 Dec 2006 - 17:55
I pray everyone is doing fine at the MS campus and also all the rest of the people affected by the storm.
#11 Matt on 18 Dec 2006 - 19:39
Yeah steam was down all day friday because of the storm.
#12 ScottKin on 19 Dec 2006 - 05:27
As one of the people who rode-out this storm and was without electricity for 48 Hours (just think: no heat, no light), I feel especially lucky to have had our electricity restored yesterday. There are many areas within a mile or two of where we are that still don't have electricity restored - and tonight the temperatures are supposed to dip into the low-30's to upper 20's.

At last check, there are still 240,000 people in the Pacific Northwest who are still without electricity for heat, hot water and light - if you are a person of faith or a "religious" person, please keep those that are struggling in your thoughts and prayers...some of them may not get any electricity until the end of the week.

Thanks!
