Cnet hosts a show called Prizefight in which two gadgets duke it out head to head for bragging rights of the Universe. It's like Frankenfights with less sources and in video.
They break the battle down point by point as the Zune almost goes the distance.

They break the battle down point by point as the Zune almost goes the distance.
Scores:The wise people at Cnet agreed with the Frankenfight's interface and compatibility scoring, though our 10-legged monster gave the design round to the iPod. To me, who would still choose an iPod over the Zune, it's refreshing to watch Apple called out as a fallible manufacturing company instead of an immortal design studio, blessing us with MP3 mana from the heavens.
Design: Zune 4 - Ipod 4
Interface Zune 5 - Ipod 4
Compatibility: Zune 2 - Ipod 3
Features: Zune 4 - Ipod 5
Performance: Zune 4 - 4

But come on, you have to admit, if the Zune came out when the Original Ipod was released -- The Ipod wouldn't be around now. This a good start, even if it looks doom and gloom at the moment..
That couldn't possibly have happened. MS created the Zune only after Apple created the market for these kinds of players.
Apple is MS's R&D department. All MS ever does is copy Apple, Google & Linux. Usually years too late. That might be a sound business strategy, but it makes for mediocre products.
..Though I couldn't agree more.

Well thats like saying "Imagine if the Xbox360 had come out when the Super Nintendo was out.. the Super Nintendo wouldn't be around now!"
Of course it wouldn't - the research, the design and more importantly the technology for MP3 players has come along in leaps and bounds. Back then Microsoft wouldn't have been able to put in a colour screen, anywhere near that capacity, WiFi or video playback. It would have been a comparable product to the iPod of the time, and i'd still wager that the iPod would do better.
I am not supporting MS here, but I have to ask, when was the last time Apple came up with anything on their own? The only thing Apple does is take the work of others, and put it in a pretty wrapper, and then all Laguna Beachers of the world buy it up because they need to accessorize without a clue as to what the product they are buying really does, or whether there are better products on the market or not.
Now, again, that's not to say that all MS users are knowledgeable, as the majority are not either, I just hate how so many people think Apple is innovative and MS is not, when really, they both pull the same crap and use the ideas and work of others to profit.

Microsoft didn't want to get into the MP3 business....MS was trying to push the MP3 manufacturers to make a quallity product to compete against the iPod. Since MS wasn't satisfied with the MP3 player makers they had to just do it themselves thus the Zune was Born.
I do have a 60GB black Ipod and I am considering in waiting for the second gen Zune. I think it is very competitive now, however I think their next version will beat the pants off of the Ipod. A healthy competition will be great!
That said, I think that would have rated Zune features a "5", instead of the "4" they give it. The wireless part is great. Well, potentially great. It doesn't home-network or sync with it (it should!
That's probably why they only gave it 4. The features are crippled on purpose, surely that's enough to lose a point.
Who said anything about it making sense?
Thanks, Mark. The comment made was so personal that it was difficult to distinguish between speakers.

And whoever said Apple does that? Steve Jobs? Ok, anyone else?
Nope, didn't think so.
they should give it 0 or at most 1, Zune marketplace, playforsure, wifi-drm, No Mac...etc The only reason why I didn't get an iPod because I personally hate iTune, why would I lock myself to another software.
Design: Zune 4
How could Zune tied with iPod? It's heavier and bigger, I can't believe MS can't produce a device as slim as iPod. I'm looking forward for "Zune 360".
and Size != design
Regardless its still to early to make any assumptions as to who is "winning". You can't make that judgement and neither can CNet. One thing that is true is the Zune is a promising product to look at in the future and honestly i dont know how you can really constitute what is first and second in this world as everyone has their own opinion. It could only be measured by place in the number of sales and its simply too soon to calculate that yet. Only time can tell. Im not saying its going to kill the iPod but its a great alternative with a lot of potential. I will hand it to apple though as the most important thing to iPod success has been mostly the marketing.
also the design is better on apples site. more colors and stuff. so i agree with these findings.
is creative players any good? (i never really looked into these hd based mp3 players much so as of now i dont know to much about em)
