Kaspersky Ships Vista AV Support

Software maker Kaspersky Lab has released its initial anti-virus products that support Microsoft's new Vista operating system. Shipped on Dec. 28, the software is a beta version of a maintenance update for Kaspersky's Anti-Virus 6.0 and Internet Security products that includes the new support for Vista, which was introduced by Microsoft in mid-November 2006.

While the first Vista-oriented products built by Kaspersky, which has its headquarters in Moscow, Russia, cover the company's consumer-oriented technologies, the firm is in the process of creating versions of its enterprise security applications that will be tailored to work with the Microsoft OS. Kaspersky has yet to disclose publicly an official date when those products will arrive.

Built with a number of security tools onboard, including anti-virus capabilities, some industry watchers have predicted that the arrival of Vista will make it harder for mid-tier software makers such as Kaspersky to compete, as Microsoft's entry to the market will also push industry leaders Symantec and McAfee to cut pricing for their own applications.

The Russians can make decent security products no doubt, but Mcafee and Norton just like to sue in the USA

Wow. That took a looong time. Not suprisingly one of the only anti-virus makers that didn't complain about Vista too! Maybe that's because they concentrated on moving on with the world and upgrading their software. Most people don't even use Vista yet and everybody thought virus protection would be horrible and take forever to come around. Great job, even if Symantec's Anti-Virus Corporate will always be the best to me; I honestly think the Symantec team who makes that software is different than the Norton department!

They did complain didn't they? I thought they complained about the way in which microsoft built the OS making their job harder or soemthing? I may be wrong however

The thing is though, Norton sucks, Macafee Home sucks enterprise is ok but Kaspersky, the free one from AOL is brilliant. I dont no much about the MS releases but i think Kaspersky is brill.

KAV is one of the best, but I'm still loyal to Nod32, which had a Vista version last month.
I tell everyone that gets tired of the Norton/McAfee problems to switch to either Nod32 or
KAV.

Not really. Kaspersky is slightly better in some ways, and NOD32 is slightly better in other ways. And they're both better than Norton/McAfee in every way.

Nod32. I woulda considered Kaspersky but I got Nod for half price by emailing the Aust center and stating I'm a student (which I am). For half the price and with both products being comparable thats what sold me in the end.

But I agree, nod or this should do fine and both are good products.

Great news, the one and only anti virus I trust supports vista. I will put it to its full potential once all the bugs in Vista get ironed out and SP1 is released which may not be until 2008 at the earliest

Well.. i'm using it on Vista right now. very stable. just dont install the Proactive and E-mail scanning stuff! File and Internet is more then enough

Kaspersky on XP was a major hog. I b*tched at them in an email and they said "we will try and solve your problem, thank you for choosing kaspersky"

. I just installed it and after a few minutes, it skyrocketed to 100% cpu usage and 200MB of my 1GB used!!!!! I'm sticking with avast pro.

Incidently, Avast has had full Vista support and compatibility since last October.
