Ever wanted a copy of Windows signed by the Chairman himself? Now Amazon is giving you that chance.

For only $259 (with free shipping) you can get your own copy of Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade Signature Edition on DVD, with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gate's signature emblazoned in silver on the front cover of your product case. Quantities are limited to 20,000 orders and the product will not ship until the official release of Vista on the 30th of this month.

Amazon.com gift-wrap is available, so now is the perfect time to make up for that Neowin staff member who was forgotten on your Christmas list.

So hes signed all 20,000 personally?
#1.1 QuarterSwede on 06 Jan 2007 - 19:56
It says, "emblazoned in silver" that doesn't necessarily mean he signed it (and I doubt it). It's most likely a crappy print job signature. If Gates actually did sign it, those copies would be sold for a lot more.

Wow, you'd have to be a nerd of epic proportions to pay extra for this. I mean if he signed it for you personally it might be worth having but just having his signature printed in silver on the cover by machines isn't exactly what I'd call very exciting. I guess Vista needs all the help it can get though.
#2.1 QuarterSwede on 06 Jan 2007 - 19:57
Exactly what I was thinking. Yawn.
#2.2 figgy on 06 Jan 2007 - 21:37
I had a Gold CD of a previous version of Windows.
I sold it for a good profit -- its a collectors item apparently.

You never know this might be of more value in years to come than its now.
#2.3 toadeater on 07 Jan 2007 - 00:23
What a cheap publicity stunt. I can print his damned signature myself and "emblazon" it on my toilet. I would then have a Bill Gates signature edition toilet to poop on.
#3 Mx² on 06 Jan 2007 - 18:18
Haha. I bet you that bloggers will also get these somehow, or they will be somehow given out for various reasons; but buying it off Amazon for extra? Never! lol
#4 dugbug on 06 Jan 2007 - 18:20
I say we all pony up for one and have it sent to badvista.org
#5 xxdesmus on 06 Jan 2007 - 18:22
That's actually kinda cool (in a really nerdy kind of way)
#6 fergiej on 06 Jan 2007 - 18:38
SO, no one has noticed that this is the same price for Vista Ultimate upgrade anyway? The only difference is that BG has signed the boxes. What's the big deal here? no one is paying extra. Oops, Ok, so it's $10 more. Still not exactly newsworthy.
#7 Spartan_X on 06 Jan 2007 - 18:44
sweet!!!

I'll try to get mine signed by Bill himself...
#8 dev on 06 Jan 2007 - 18:49
i'd want a reduced price for a signed copy :p
#9 Leo Natan on 06 Jan 2007 - 19:13
 lol...
#10 xpablo on 06 Jan 2007 - 19:30
It's a deal !

Now all I have to do is find his checkbook.

#13 thenay on 06 Jan 2007 - 20:19
Too bad it's not personally signed by him, yawn, if I want that on my box i'll run it thru the printer
#14 MrCobra on 06 Jan 2007 - 20:30
This is as bad as that freaking Google garage being a tourist attraction.
#15 winmoose on 06 Jan 2007 - 20:40
His signature probably has a bug in it anyway.
#16 Cyranthus on 06 Jan 2007 - 20:47

The only time I want to see Bill Gates's signature, is on a document proclaming how much product activation, DRM and WGA suck arse.
#17.1 phedot on 06 Jan 2007 - 21:38
Or on a $1M check with my beautiful name in it, too.

Woah, really? You know thats "blood money" right?
#18 Sawyer12 on 06 Jan 2007 - 21:08
I wondered why Vista took a long time to develop they had to wait for Bill to sign all 20,000 boxes before they could ship it.

#21.1 jasonandre on 07 Jan 2007 - 01:22
No worries. I'm almost positive that at least one person will end up putting it on eBay.
#22 ziggie216 on 06 Jan 2007 - 22:52
meh..... not like it's going to worth anything in a few years...

lol @ all those who are going crazy for it
(1 reply) #23 chimera963 on 06 Jan 2007 - 23:07
Wow, how entirely useless. The box will be kept on a shelf gathering dust, by all (I'm sticking with XP), so what IS the actual point?
#23.1 Jugalator on 07 Jan 2007 - 04:00
For MS fans to sleep at night and fulfill their greatest fantasies with.

Now i am a total geek, and unashamed in admitting it, but...

That is one of the saddest, nerdiest, geekiest bloody things ive ever heard of.

Besides the signature probably comes with DRM and needs activating to prove its genuine, failure to do so results in the box self destructing after 30 days and Steve Ballmer using the l33t MS swat team to assault your house armed with WGA uberguns.

Thats if they dont crash on the way there.

*Cue Starsky and Hutch music with a Ford Torino driving down an alleyway and smashing through empty Zune boxes*

I thought chairs were steve's weapon of choice?
(2 replies) #25 AndyD on 07 Jan 2007 - 02:34
I actually placed the order but didn't realize they were charging $10 more just for that. Yeah right. Switching to the $249.99
#25.1 jasonandre on 07 Jan 2007 - 03:13
No one is charging more for anything. $259 is the retail price of Vista Ultimate Upgrade, signature or no signature. Amazon just isn't giving you the same $10 discount as they are for everything else.

Which means they are charging $10 more for a "collectors edition"

Can I get Steve Job's signature on the Windows Vista box? Hehe...
#26.1 Neomac v6 on 07 Jan 2007 - 06:06
Yeah, he has more "rock star" appeal than Gates (plus is probably responsible for more of Vista's "innovations"
#26.2 C_Guy on 08 Jan 2007 - 15:34
"plus is probably responsible for more of Vista's "innovations"

Now *that's* funny! I don't think Steve's copy machine has even cooled down yet.
(1 reply) #27 xpablo on 07 Jan 2007 - 04:26
Actually I'd Rather have my Vista box signed by Neobond & Redmak.

I honestly think they should come out with a Neowin Edition of Vista, this community started when XP was being released and has grown to a large enough population to be it's own country, so why not have a Special Neowin Edition of Vista Ultimate !

#27.1 GEIST on 07 Jan 2007 - 07:43
And what would such edition separate it from the normal editions? Different packaging? lol...
#28 The_Decryptor on 07 Jan 2007 - 09:37
"Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade Signature Edition"

Not a mouthful at all.

Cool idea though, if it wasn't so damned expensive i might consider getting Ultimate.
#29 LTD on 07 Jan 2007 - 15:40
I wonder how much Steve Wozniak's signature (authentic) would be worth . . .
#30 kezzzs on 07 Jan 2007 - 16:41
Very Mr. Foremany

"It's so good, I put my NAME on it"
#31 Buttus on 07 Jan 2007 - 17:15
I want my Vista box signed by Linus Torvalds!
#32 C_Guy on 08 Jan 2007 - 15:35
Ok guys we all know if Mac OS X SP 5, er I mean 10.5 came out with Stevie's silver embossed signature on it, all the Mac fans would be drooling helplessly all over it and would gladly shell out extra cash for it so let's stop acting like BG's signature on Vista is so laughable.
