To the great excitement of Sony Cyber-shot and PSP fans, Sony announced the 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo at CES 2007. As well, Sony announced that beginning in 2007 all new Handycam camcorder models will include a Memory Stick slot. Available in February 2007, the card will be priced at around $300. It should be noted that at today’s prices, you are better off with 3 x 4GB Memory Stick PROs.

The life of the Memory Stick format spans from the dawning of the digital camera to the emergence of today’s high-definition video and gaming products. Throughout all of these advances in the consumer electronics industry, Memory Stick media has remained a constant source of compact and portable flash memory.” said Mike Kahn, senior manager for Memory Stick Media at Sony Electronics.

Good stuff, but wait until prices drop. That said, i'm waiting for the day when they can squeeze 30+ gig onto one of these bad boys, or even any other media cards, if at all possible.

It's not "soooo fascinating", but it's still interesting: console emulators, scummvm, media players, comic readers, vnc, mail and sms clients, irc, ftp... plus you can carry your favorite psp games on the ms and leave the UMDs at home (that is, if making backups of games is not illegal in your country).

You've been able to get 8GB Secure Digital cards for ages. What took Sony so long to get their propitiatory format up to 8GB? It's really the same basic technology, just a slightly different implementation and a different form-factor.

It's taken them longer because thier products are crap.

That's like saying "We've been able to get 500GB 3.5" HDDs for ages, why aren't there any 500GB 2.5" Drives yet? It's basically the same thing but slightly differently implementation and form factor!".

SD forever!!!

Boycott Sony and it's proprietary formats.

I think I'd rather boycott small minds. Kudos to Sony for bumping up to 8 gig, it was sorely needed with no real HDD options for PSP1. I'll take a 2x capacity battery next
