Still using Skype for VoIP calls? Oh my god, that is so 2006 (or earlier, even). You don't need to have the extra application wasting precious system resources any more because for many months now PC-to-Phone calling is already there on your desktop, baked into Windows Live Messenger.
Tests have proven that the sound quality of Windows Live Call is at least as good as Skype's, but maybe you want to put that to the test yourself. You can, and thanks to Verizon it will cost you absolutely nothing. All users of the Windows Live Messenger 8.1 Beta from Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom or the United States are offered two free calls lasting three minutes maximum to almost any fixed line or mobile number in the world. Just click the little telephone icon in your dashboard and you're off.
Here are some suggestions from the source for what to do with your free 3-minute calls:
Download: Download WLM 8.1 Beta (Required)

- Order a pizza with 195 toppings or -if you're not that hungry- order a pizza with 25 toppings but spell each of them out.
- Call a friend and try to explain Einstein's theory of relativity in less than 500 words.
- Order 47 different dishes at the Chinese takeaway (you can probably order twice as much if you hang up before they start to repeat your order).
- Call a random person and sing the complete lyrics to Sir Mix-A-Lot's Baby got Back (ask a friend or family member to beatbox in the background).
- Call your local pub and ask for Mike Rotch, Amanda Huggenkiss, Homer Sexual, Ivanna Tinkle, G.I. Manidiot, Eura Snotball, Oliver Clothesoff, Maya Buttreeks, Jacques Strappe, I.P. Freely, Heywood U. Cuddleme, Al Coholic, Seymour Butz, Anita Bath and Bea O'Problem. (Do these names sound familiar to you?)

Anyone remember that epsisode
No. But the Beta Version is out. I guess I missed out typing beta. Sorry about that.
Someone watching to many Simpsons episodes
See www.voipbuster.com for example:

Oh god I love MSN. You have to put yourself up with all the ads or you have to crack your software with some dodge malware. Wonderful! Ads, Ads, ads, huge memory footprint and even more useless stuff.
Even worse that nightmare runs only on win32 clients (I mean the voip bit). So if you happen to run linux or mac, well you can't. Rubbish.
Oh, and what if you are behind a router or two? How does that affect your call quality?
People are using MSN only because of "vendor lock in". They just can't realize there are much better alternatives. We all know hotmail (live.com as of 2006) suck but "everyone" still uses it. Oh I like those email addresses like Iamasillyfatdrinkerpig9326u58439579843@hotmail.com .
No thank you, I will stay with skype and yahoo
Last time I checked, A-Patch contained no malware, and Msg Plus! Live doesn't force you to install it.
It's hardly a huge memory footprint. BTW does yahoo support linux? Last I checked it didn't.

Cut your crap. The ads don't use up so much memory and nor does msn. For your information WLM is in beta. Don't expect them to start making a mac version of it. If your so unhappy about ads go use A-patch.
Routers do not degrade your voice quality in anyway, or maybe by some ridiculously tiny amount that you prob will not ever hear.
And wtf is vendor lock in huh? I don't see microsoft FORCING people to use hotmail or any of its MSN/live services.
And mail.live.com does not suck. When did you last use it? Milestone 1?
Even just for text chat I prefer Skype over any other IM client.
Still no mindpuzzle predictions for 2007, and this way i can't get caught by any agents around here.
