It turns out Apple is not only interested in movies and TV shows but film festivals as well; take the Sundance Film Festival as an example. Festival films, 33 of 71 to be exact, will be sold through the iTunes store for $1.99 (£1) beginning January 22. The festival, which takes place in Park City, Utah and debuts January 18, will also stream the films on their web site for three months, free of charge. Filmmakers will get the bulk of the download price, while Apple, the Sundance Institute and cable television's Sundance Channel will split the remainder. Mr Cooper said a few more films will be shown just on the website but full-length festival films will not be offered.

"Streaming on our site is not the same as owning, and there seems to be a world out there for both. What Sundance is really known for is as a platform for people to sell their films, and that's mainly the feature film. We didn't want to really interfere with that yet," said John Cooper of the Sundance Institute.

That is a really cool idea. I'd never buy stuff easily available on iTunes, but stuff it'd be hard to get elsewhere is what the whole point of digital distribution should be.

Great stuff. I might buy a few if. Mainly due to "filmmakers will get the bulk of the download price".
