The GeForce 8 Series is starting to take shape as NVIDIA continues to release information on new graphic card models to its many partners. A 320MB derivative of the GeForce 8800 GTS product should be available in mid-February 2007. This model aims to reduce the cost for the enthusiast who really needs that DirectX 10 card. Samsung K4J55323QG-BC12 (800MHz GDDR3 memory) has a spot market price of about $50 for 640MB; therefore, the 320MB memory should go for $25 less. All aspects of the 640MB card will remain the same for the 320MB derivative: 500MHz core frequency, 800MHz memory frequency, 96 stream processors, the PCB layout as well as cooling.

In an interview late last year, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang confirmed the company's plans for more DirectX 10 video cards in Q1 2007.

640MB of memory for the card is 50$. Since the only thing that is different between the two cards is memory, DailyTech speculates that 320MB should be $25 cheaper. Chances are it will be a bit more than that though.

No you are reading wrong. The memory on the cards costs $50 for 640MB, $25 less for the 320MB version. The card will cost around $300 if I remember correctly.

So, it's got 1/2 the VRAM of the original 8800GTS. If I read the article right, then that saves the manuafacurer a whopping $25 per card. How many of you would be buyinga 320 MB card instead of a 640 MB card if the price difference was just $25? I'm betting you'd all shell out the extra $25 go for the 640 MB card. So, that tells me that if anyone actually hopes to sell any of these scaled-down cards they will have to cut into the profit margin.

It's all kinda a moot point anyways: Nobody but game developers actually need a 8800 card right now, and we've yet to see ATi's DX10 cards hit the street.

Supreme Commander hits stores Feb 20th and its damage model makes full use of DX10.

don't forget that the 8800 is not only the fastest dx10 card available - but also the fastest dx9 card

X-bit Labs said on the 10th that the rumored price is $299-$349. I think you are reading too far into the comments about the memory only costing like $25 less.
