Sony has decided to upgrade several of its digital still cameras with more of those juicy megapixels (higher resolution image sensors). The DSC-W55 ($200) and W35 ($180) will replace the current W50 ($200) and W30 ($200) models. The main difference is a 7.2-megapixel image sensor as opposed to the existing 6-megapixel one. The DSC-S650 ($150) and S-700 ($180) will both provide a 7.0-megapixel image sensor, an upgrade of 1-megapixel over the 6-megapixel S600 model. Other major features remain unchanged: all four cameras still have a 3X optical zoom lens, blur-reduction setting, a fragment of internal memory and Memory Stick Duo slots. Sony will begin accepting pre-orders online from January 23, 2007 while in-store availability will come in February and March 2007.

I love their cameras for personal use.... but the price for the memory stick is just way to much compared to your SD cards...

I checked on the price a few days ago...about £12 for a 1GB Sony Pro Duo compared to £10 for a 1GB SD card.

does their picture quality still suck at high ISO levels? Their cameras have always been good but I absoutly hate them in some circumstances... like low light pictures you use to get a lot of grain in the image and random noise... then in high ISO modes you would get a smiliar problem...

More pixels = more noise.

These cameras suck compared to my Canon 400D DSLR.

Gosh, you mean a $800 10 megapixel camera is better than a $200 7 megapixel camera? Who would have thought?

Did you just compared a point and shoot camera to a DSLR?

Just bought a W50 for Christmas.

Sorry, but I'm still boycotting Sony over their rootkit cds. They and their shiny new digital cameras can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned.
