It turns out that the demand for electronic dictionaries is fairly big, and growing. Enough anyways, for Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co., Ltd. to announce the mass production of its 5.01-inch monochrome, highly reflective, thin film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD). Designed for monochrome applications, typically used in displays on office automation equipment and electronic dictionaries, the 16-level grayscale VGA 640x480 resolution display has completely eliminated the need for a backlight due to the highly reflective surface and optical performance.
The device can therefore consume less energy, effectively increasing battery life. With a 20 ms response time, the clarity of the image produced has improved as well. There is currently no launch date available. With research on flexible electronics underway, the question left is when TMDT will manufacture the product in paper thin sizes.

Still, I'll keep an eye out for it next time I'm at the checkout at Tesco's
