The organization behind ".um", the University of Southern California's Information Sciences Institute, decided the domain wasn’t worth the effort. Since it wasn’t being used anyway, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers unanimously decided last week to eliminate it entirely, bringing the list of domains to 264. The public’s opinion on how to revoke outdated suffixes is being taken into consideration in order to trim the domain list down. Domains tied to countries that no longer exist are the prime target. Soviet Union's ".su" is the leading candidate for deletion but a Google search still displays more than 3 million ".su" sites. Recent new domain names include “.eu” and “.travel” while “.xxx” is still under ICANN review.

.xxx is a good idea, at least in my opinion.

Agreed. It would make it a lot easier to block those sites.

But as it stands, the .xxx domain will be extremely expensive, and there'll be little to no incentive for porn sites to use it.

They should be more expensive for you if you want to register the domain ilike.xxx but not for an industry that makes more more than Hollywood per year.

And for the ease to block it is only easy if all porno related websites register with a .xxx TLD.

whis is exactly why it wont get used.

1) Cost
2) It gives people an easy way to block your traffic and your money.

Forcing pr0n sites to use it will be the only way and that's only going to have limited success.

Both Serbia and Montenegro still uses .yu, which goes back to former Yugoslavia.
