Are you young? Same thing for sure happened with XP.
#1.2 +Interrobang on 29 Jan 2007 - 22:45
Would you rather they didn't patch things, you'll moan if they leave problems open and you'll moan that they're fixing them too quickly. Grow up man.
#1.3 hapbt on 29 Jan 2007 - 22:46
Wow! Updates for Vista that aren't just antipiracy fixes!
Amazing!

You do realise it's been out for two months don't you?
(2 replies) #2 maxsquared on 29 Jan 2007 - 22:44
It just officially launched 2 minutes ago, literially
#2.1 Croquant on 30 Jan 2007 - 05:04
The actual launch was two months ago. Today was just the General Availability date.
In other words, today is the day that all the suckers who don't know squat about OS get to line up to pay MS money for something based on marketing hype and flashy ads.
The rest of us have been playing with Vista for months, if not years.
#2.2 Ideas Man on 30 Jan 2007 - 23:28
Do you mean illegally or a beta/RC version?
#3 -Dave- on 29 Jan 2007 - 22:44
all i have to say is that it ???
lol
4 months and thats all we get ?!?

haha im joking

its good to see them trickle through - here to more coming in the next few weeks!

Looks like blowing it out to business a couple months early is helping nail up some bugs.
Nice to see MS not setting on their laurels.
#5.1 +TCLN Ryster on 29 Jan 2007 - 23:03
Not to mention the thousands of beta testers who continued to report bugs days after the product went RTM.

Any links to what the fixes fix

Microsoft's knowledgebase system appears to be having a few issues at the moment so some of the details are not available, but later on when it's fixed, lookup the KB numbers on microsoft.com in this screenshot that I posted:
http://uploads.neowin.net/download.php?fil...ame=updates.jpg

"KB Article is not Available
Search the Knowledge Base (KB) is currently not available. We are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible."

A fix for some obscure error with windows search not giving all the results when a non-Gregorian calender i used.

Windows update keeps telling me no updates or ultimate extras available. Are they staggering?

too bad these updates dont close those low level hooks that sony and other companies can use to get in or remove that drm garbage.
#11.1 raskren on 30 Jan 2007 - 01:43
Uh, ring-0 access? That would be solved with PatchGuard. And if you remove HD playback "DRM" you lose the ability to view HD movies. Take your pick.

I assumed as much. Just nice to have it on official neowin news post comment record.

I wonder if the Language updates will turn the OS itself into the said language, like Mac OS X does when you switch them! (Like, if you choose Japanese, everything turns into japanese, which is very sweet, and it happens on the fly). I'm downloading Japanese right now so I hope it's that!

Noooooooooooooooooooooo
#15 smokinblues on 30 Jan 2007 - 04:18
still no updates or ultimate extras...I wonder if there's a problem with my installation
(1 reply) #16 illz55 on 30 Jan 2007 - 04:21
Dreamscene is already out but you know... not in a very legitimate way. However, if you have a legitimate copy of Vista, it would be ethical for you to get Dreamscene for free now without having to wait. I'm so happy, my university gives out free Vista Business downloads and I just got it. Glad I waited and now no need to worry about any cracks or activation patches.
#16.1 MioTheGreat on 30 Jan 2007 - 04:49
The beta copy that's floating around? It's a little twitchy with high-def, and I have a really nice processor (Core Duo 2.16ghz)
(2 replies) #17 Elite_graphix on 30 Jan 2007 - 04:23
I've got dreamscene since i couldnt wait for MS to release it officially.. and it totally rocks.!!

i played a wmd-hd T2 as my background and less than 5% cpu usage!! totally owns!! works smoothly with aero effects and win+tab -plays live too on background and window!
#17.1 Lino en Kuldes on 30 Jan 2007 - 04:35
What's your comp's specs, man?
#17.2 Elite_graphix on 30 Jan 2007 - 05:05
amd x2 4400+ 2gb ram, x1950xtx with new 7.1 drivers. 1920x1080 res 24" dell tft.

i did noticed my gpu temp increase-after 15mins- it seems the gpu does all the hard work and the cpu takes it easy

i also tried a *.ts hdtv file too- a 10gb 1080p video and that like 8-10% cpu..

So, how long till they get the majority of these post-RTM bugs worked out? Who wants to bet it's three years until we see Vista SP1? I do.
#18.1 M118LR on 30 Jan 2007 - 07:07
You just lost your own bet. Vista SP1 is due out the same time as Longhorn Server. They are both due out by the end of this year.
#19 acseven on 30 Jan 2007 - 08:54
minor correction: The Portuguese language pack is for Brazilian Portuguese, not European Portuguese.
#20 otester on 30 Jan 2007 - 15:34
£115 - Vista Ultimate OEM - This version is locked onto the computer it is installed on.

£330 - Vista Ultimate Retail - This version allows 1 per computer, will reinstall and can be uninstalled and moved.

I think the costs outweigh the benifit, most of the new games coming out are either from EA, complete **** or don't require DX10.

Unreal 2007 is not based on DX10 so I think I'll stick with my PC.

Is Windows XP Pro x64 worth getting?
