This weekend, Dell quietly made Windows Vista available on most of the company’s desktop and laptop machines. The computers are still priced in the same range but now offer various editions of Windows Vista installed by default. Gizmodo reports taht there are currently no configurations with an HD tuner. “Dell recommends Windows Vista™ Home Premium” is at the top of both laptop and desktop categories, whether they are high end or low end computers. Hewlett Packard, which overtook Dell recently as the number one computer manufacturer in the world, also has Windows Vista strewn across its website.

People should wait till March when they can get a better preloaded OS from Dell (RHEL 5), which should prove to be a mutch more stable OS than Vista.

People should ignore stupid comments like that and use what ever OS they feel is best for their needs. In my opinion Vista will suit the needs of far more people than any other OS, RHEL is WAY to difficult for an average end user to use.

I have been using Vista for months and haven't had any real problems with it. Since it went RTM I have used it as my primary OS with nothing but great results. Its plenty stable. I'm not saying that the novice computer user wont find a way to crash it but it hasn't done that to me yet and most of my apps seem to work or have a work around in place.

RHEL 5 is probably great for people who actually use RHEL or any other Linux distro but I don't see too many windows users if any at all jumping ship for RHEL 5.

Vista is a monumental leap forward for MS. And so far, so very good

At least they aren't telling people to get Home Basic, because then I would totally hate Dell with a passion.

My MIL came over Saturday with a Dell flyer...her current machine is a no-name-brand Celery 333, and the PSU fan started stinking up her home office last week.

The system in the flyer wasn't too bad (E521), but it wasn't too good for the price, either. I went to their website to help her configure a substantially better machine for just a couple-hundred dollars more, and was pleasantly surprised to see Vista as the OS...she pulled out her CC on the spot.

And the default choice was Home Basic. She doesn't need anything more than that anyway...
