Despite Microsoft’s virtual concert launch party for Windows Vista in Second Life, according to a recent post on Second Life's official blog, some Vista users cannot reliably connect to the virtual world. Second Life engineers are working on a fix, said blog publisher Linden Lab: "The changes that are currently in the First Look Viewer (a test version of the Second Life viewer) are an important precursor to any reasonable attempt for us to debug problems with running Second Life under Windows Vista. These changes are just about ready for an official release, at which point we will start the process of ensuring that Second Life runs under Vista." Linden Lab makes money selling virtual clothing, real estate and other goods. A spokesman for Linden Lab said the fixes are likely to be ready in a couple of weeks.

A very ugly virtual world where stuff cost you real money instead of gold coins, and with occasional outbreaks of flying penises.

Article title kinda makes it sound like its Microsoft's fault...
I kinda figured something as (supposedly) big as Second Life would have been testing it on the betas?
But, really, I know nothing about Second Life so I should probably shut up.

That's what I thought...

Damn, you guys live in an island or something? Second Life is a virtual online game. http://www.secondlife.com/. It has been getting alot of publicity from mags such as Businesweek and newspapers like USA Today, etc.... They released the source code which is now open source. My wife plays it on Vista Ultimate for the past 2 weeks now with minor issues.

Those Apple commercials were brutal .. the one about UAC had me ROFL'ing ......

Apple stink IMO. Instead of producing adverts that give you the benefits of owning a mac, all they can come up with is blatant bashing of their competitors. That kind of negative advertising makes me sick.

Anyhow, back on topic... Second Life looks interesting, I'm gonna check it out.
#7.2 Danrarbc on 14 Feb 2007 - 23:44
Except the UAC ad contains almost no facts. And ignores OS X has it's own system of approving system level access, also involving popups.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but don't the adverts from apple kind of say... "See how crappy the PC is... our mac won't do these annoying things".

The bring up the shortcomings of Vista and indicate these issues don't happen on a mac.

How is this even news worthy? Plenty of applications don't work correctly under Vista right now.

You would have figured that if MS was hosting a virtual concert for Vista in SL they would have at least bothered to make sure that Vista works with SL?

Typical Neo-wieners:

"Application A doesn't run under OS X! OS X sucks!"

"Application A doesn't run under Vista! Application A sucks!"

Hypocrites.
#9.1 billyea on 15 Feb 2007 - 01:22
Well if the application is designed for NT Windows, then it's really nobody's fault if it doesn't run on Mac OSX (like trying to hammer a screw in). and vice versa

If it was designed for NT Windows and it doesn't run under Vista, it's the application's fault because Vista has advanced compatibility modes and what note. It's the developer's problem to update, not Microsoft's.
On some cases, Vista does suck, but not here.
#9.2 cyberdrone2000 on 15 Feb 2007 - 03:10
What's really funny is I seem to hear the opposite much more often:

"Application A doesn't run under Vista! Vista sucks!"
"Application A doesn't run under OS X! Application A sucks!"

Then again, just about everything else is opposite too when you live at the other end of the rainbow. (Canada)
#9.3 Jugalator on 15 Feb 2007 - 08:09
I don't really see why that would make you a hypocrite...

As long as it's a honest opinion of the person posting that he/she think an OS sucks for this (regardless if it's true/correct or not), then that doesn't make the person a hypocrite. Keyword here being "honest opinion".

UAC ad

that one on youtube is funny and filled with no facts on truely nice it is to have for noob's in the new operating system

That game is ass. the viusals suck and the people on there are actually LESS interesting than computer-driven RPG characters.

#12 Symphony on 15 Feb 2007 - 09:48
Why the hell is this news? It is a game, which will get a patch to work correctly. Raise your hands if haven't seen this ever before. Let me count 1, 2, 3 out of 20. Using a Mac, right? Btw, what's your record on Super Tetris?
#13 Aero Ultimate on 15 Feb 2007 - 19:52
You must be really, really bored and have no "first" life at all to use this "Second Life" crap
Having money-growing trees is also good when you want to spend real money on virtual goods.
#14 Lt-DavidW on 15 Feb 2007 - 21:37
Damn Microsoft for not coding Vista to work with every application.

Damn them also for not writing drivers for NVIDIA video cards.

Damn my employer for me missing the train to work this morning and coming in ten minutes late.
#15 Rumor on 17 Feb 2007 - 15:24
I make good money in SL. hehe..it's awesome
