It seems Apple Incorporated has successfully evaded a particularly problematic trademark issue with network equipment maker Cisco Systems Incorporated. Cisco sued Apple for trademark infringement in January after Apple unveiled its long-awaited multimedia phone and used the iPhone trademark, which Cisco obtained by acquiring Infogear (previous owner and user of the trademark) in 2000. Linksys, a division of Cisco, had been selling wireless products with the iPhone name since early last year. In a joint statement, Cisco and Apple have announced an agreement that allows both companies to use the "iPhone" name internationally, without any legal action from either side. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. In addition, Cisco and Apple will explore opportunities to work together in the areas of security, as well as consumer and institutional communications.

Hats off to Apple for a job well done. It's what shareholders love to see - a company with balls.
Have to agree with david13lt: Apple played this one well.
This has nothing to do with "balls" or "strategy". Everyone has their price and Apple met that price. They didn't even think about fighting they just handed over enough money to keep Cisco happy.
Of course, the professional thing to do would have been to reach this agreement before using the name in a public announcement but that's not Apple's style.

You obviously have ZERO clue about the facts surrounding the trademark so just stop spouting your anti-Apple crap. It's getting tiresome.
Cut the crap; Apple and Cisco will never work together after this problably. That just looks nice and friendly to the public and media.
Apple has paid Cisco money and of course Cisco will gain a undisclosed percentage of iPhone sales.

Eh, you stole my comment, but that's alright. At least someone said it.
