Intel has announced that 2007 will include 45nm server and workstation products as well as 3.0GHz Intel Xeon “Clovertown” 65nm chips. During a conference call with analysts, Kirk Skaugen (chief of Intel’s Xeon group) proclaimed that the chip giant plans to introduce low-power quad-core chips with 50W thermal design power in early March, to present code-named Caneland multi-processor server platform in Q3 2007 and to launch the first 45nm Xeon DP (dual processor) products in the second half of the year.
Based on the Penryn core, the new Intel Xeon 45nm microprocessor (for dual-socket applications) will be drop-in compatible with the company’s contemporary Intel 5000-series core-logic sets. There will be, however, an improved version of the Intel 5000-series chipset aimed at HPC/WS market segments that features 1600MHz processor system bus (PSB) coming in the second half of the year, in order to support higher-performance 3GHz Xeon “Clovertown” chips. Skaugen did not reveal any details regarding Intel’s 2008 next-generation microprocessors based on the micro-architecture known as Nehalem and its derivative Westmere, which will require a new platform.

AMD are doing better now financially than they've ever done.
This K7L rubbish or whatever its called, the 4x4, is the biggest pile of crap ever, 2 dual core cpus, 2 sockets, 2 lots of ram, whos going to want to waste their cash on that when they can just buy a more advanced and might i add faster Core 2 Quad, they dont have an answer to Core 2 yet, and the longer they leave it the worse off they will be.

And? So they dont have a product yet boo hoo they will and once they do they can start competing again and then intel and amd can start price waring it and the consumer gets the benfitit.
End of the day Intel have always been a market leader and got smug in that position and it cost them. Sure there on top thay always have been but they got a bit of a nose bleed and AMD is not going anywhere just because they dont currently have a quad core chip.
If it wasent for AMD we would all be using P4s still and I can bet they wouldent be half as cheap. AMD will compete on price like thay always have, sure its harder now as intel products arnt as cheap as they were but a lot of people will still buy on a budget and buy cheap PCs and Intel rarely win in this department because you always get joe average who wont jusify paying an extra £/$50 on a Pc just because its intel.
