The world’s second largest provider of x86 chips, Advanced Micro Devices, said at conference that it would lower its sales guidance for the first quarter of fiscal 2007. Speaking to investors at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference in San Francisco, chief executive Hector Ruiz said AMD would not meet its first-quarter sales guidance of between $1.6 billion and $1.7 billion but noted: "The environment is very competitive, very competitive. We need to break the monopoly, and for that we've got to get above 30% [market share]," Mr. Ruiz said.
According to preliminary figures from a study by Mercury Research, Intel Corporation controlled 74.4% of the x86 chip market in Q4 2006, AMD owned 25.3% of the market and the remaining 0.3% were shared between companies like Transmeta Corporation and Via Technologies. In the last quarter of 2006, Intel shipped 77.7% of central processing units for servers, up from 76.3% in Q3 and 74.1% in Q2. AMD’s share in Q4 slipped to 22.3%, down from 23.7% in the prior quarter.

Where are Barcelona's performance numbers? If AMD truly had a better product they would have released performance, price, and wattage numbers by now to get the hype wagon rolling.

Ok...well.....get to Hollywood and borrow someone's camera and start filming, because there hasn't been any AMD commercials on TV that I'm aware of (least none I've seen) and certainly not any recently. AMD had a great opportunity when the FX series was blowing Intel out of the water...it's time to get that back, and time to start showing the world what AMD is capable of.

About $400+ and you can build a decent rig.
Gamers are a smaller percentage of users.
Also most people don't overclock so the differences are NOT as great between low end cpu's, a x2 3800 versus a e6300 isn't much of a difference for most people.

Thats US pricing, go anywhere else in the world and AMD's are either no different in price or worse, so poorly undersupplied, its impossible to source them.
AMD has always offered sound alternatives at decent prices but lets not kid ourselves here, Intel is the big player and always has been. They are the architects of x86 and most technologies based on the platform, they are worth ten times what AMD is and have the best engineers in the world.

If you buy a AM2 board you have a chance to upgrade to a AM3 cpu in the future as AMD says they will run on the same socket and support both DDR2 and DDR3 memory. Kuma will be the dual core upgrade released in q4 and hopefully will close the gap with Intel once agian.
