The Vanishing Point Game may be long gone, but the efforts of the Neowin and unFiction communities lives on through the specially engraved AMD chip, announced today.

The winner of the 'meta prize' for Microsoft's puzzle game, designed for the launch of Windows Vista, sought to acknowledge the help she received from Neowin and so asked to have our community's name engraved along with herself and her husband.

Chip number 1, of the limited run of 1,000 AMD Athlon 64 FX, was presented to Audrey Murphy by representatives from AMD and Microsoft.

I'll also have to join that queue too - I certainly didn't have the foggiest idea on how to do them.

Add me to that list as well. I had no idea how to do the puzzles either.

I knew how to do the first one, and I almost started writing a script to solve it for me.

Then I remembered that:

a) It's a GAME.
b) Even if I complete them, it's still a DRAW for the prize.
c) There are bigger nerds than me who have more time to solve them continuously.
d) Odds of winning mathematically insignificant.

That is just very cool. Thanks to Audrey for acknowledging us like that.

Cool.

Not to be a stick in the mud, but how is that engraved?
#6.1 simon360 on 12 Mar 2007 - 23:02
It's carved into it...

No, it's actually laser etched.

Carved makes it sound like someone with a chisel and hammer wrote it.
#6.3 simon360 on 13 Mar 2007 - 00:50
lol, let's take the middle ground and say it was carved by a laser
#6.4 K3vlar on 13 Mar 2007 - 17:44
So... A laser with a chisel and hammer wrote it?
#7 +Al on 12 Mar 2007 - 22:51

Too bad you can't see it once you put the HSF on.
So, you can display it, or use it, but not both.
#15 hotdog963al on 12 Mar 2007 - 23:23
Now to cover that baby with Thermal paste!!

It's "immortalized"...
#16.1 dduardo on 12 Mar 2007 - 23:34
It is acceptable to write it both ways. The British spell it with a 's' while Americans spell it with a 'z'.

Rob happens to be British so that's why he spelled it the way he did.
#16.2 SimpleRules on 12 Mar 2007 - 23:53
You Americans and your disdain for our great language!

#16.3 vetcashman on 13 Mar 2007 - 00:17

Woo support the underdog. AMD is hurting right now, I want them to come back strong, to help make Intel better through pressure. Which in turn makes AMD better. I still run AMD.

I'm surprised Frogboy didn't throw a fit and demand that Stardock get it's name put on this as well. Since he owns 40% of this place and all.
