In response to Fujitsu’s MHW2160BJ 160GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s notebook hard drive, Seagate has released its 160GB Momentus 7200.2, a second generation 7200RPM hard drive which uses perpendicular recording technology. The Momentus 7200.2 also adds an optional free-fall sensor that can detect a free-fall from a height of just 8 inches. The drives are also built to withstand non-operating shocks of 900 Gs and operating shocks of 350 Gs. The Momentus 7200.2 series is available now in capacities of 80GB, 100GB, 120GB and 160GB. According to Seagate, the Momentus 7200.2 160GB with G-Force protection will have a street price of around $188.
