Rumours, hints and leaks have all suggested that Google was working on a GPhone. Official confirmation comes from Isabel Aguilera, Google's chief executive in Spain and Portugal. The woman has admitted that the search giant is indeed working on a mobile phone in the labs but it isn’t exactly as top priority as the iPhone was for Apple. She noted that it is just one of 18 R&D initiatives the company currently has underway and that it is probably for developing countries anyways. The idea is all about helping information get to where it’s needed in developing economies. In the end, it isn’t exactly something to get excited about, as the project can easily be dropped at any time. Nonethless, expect the Google Phone to be touted as the iPhone killer on your favourite "trusted" sources.

I doubt many people in developing countries would be able to afford anything close to an iPhone, so there is not much choice...

Dont think it will be anywhere near as good as the iPhone. There is not enough information about it. We could be hyping it up as the next best thing and then all we see when it gets released is a Google VoIP phone!!

Anyway they have time on their side ... sit back and see how the pioneering new iPhone features affect the mobile market and pounce with something bigger and better ... actually ... maybe not bigger!!

iphone is way overhyped... you can already get a phone with most of the features and some other ones for cheaper!!

Isn't that a girl name?

Anyway, I suppose the phone would be free, like all other Google services/products.

FREE!! are you kidding me (although that would be nice. But i dont think they would be able to sell enough advertising o be able to sell free phones. and if its going up against Iphone it will have to cost.

What I don't get is why it's always execs in random places who confirm seemingly huge announcements?

They have to inflate those stock prices more than what they already are.

I have seen pictures and I can't wait to get my hands on a new GPhone. It is stupendous!
