It seems as that the initial 12,000 beta testers isn’t enough, so IBM is publically allowing computer users to sign up for a free open beta program for Lotus and Domino 8. The completed versions of which are expected to be launched in mid-summer. The software touts new features such as a redesigned interface that facilitates quick views of important e-mails by grouping them into threads and enhanced search capabilities that extend beyond the in-box. Beyond the new collaborative features in Lotus Notes, IBM in January introduced Lotus Connections, software that the company says paves the way for "business-grade social computing." The fact that there are already 12K beta testers shows that to be true... You might feel as if you onto MS for life, but the rest of the world isn't. Also, monopolies aren't set in stone in the computer world. Depending on your age you might remember the transfer of search monopoly from Yahoo to Google...

the company i work for is probably using an earlier version of lotus notes, and we are a 40+million a year company, worldwide we are over 400+million. All of our subsidiaries use lotus notes.

Notes is, as Sideshow Mel would say, "Terrrrrible!!"
Fort the ignorant if you know MS Exchange then you know Lotus Notes, both are widely used in corporate world for day to day activities.
Shame the other Lotus products aren't so good - I cringe on the rare occasions I have to open something in 123 or Word Pro...
