Microsoft Disappoints Zune Users Waiting For Firmware Update

Last month, Cesar Menendez announced on his Zune Insider blog that the Zune 1.3 firmware update would be released on March 20, today. On the most recent blog entry, also marked March 20, there is no firmware update release. Instead of a download link, Mr. Menendez contacted Zune's release manager who replied: “I can’t comment on the exact date just yet, but it will be soon, as it’s in the final testing and processes to get released.” Not only should you try to stick to the date you tell your customers about, but if you can’t make the date, you should tell them beforehand, not on the day of. To make matters worse, the firmware update isn’t all about new features. It is expected to fix problems users are having with purchased Zune Marketplace songs “skipping” at the start. There is no excuse for the Zune not correctly playing music from the Zune Marketplace. Especially if the product has been available for a few months now.

What are you talking about? Future Shop offered these things up the day they were made available. They even had a midnight offerring of them.

Suppose they dropped them because of poor sales. So, perhaps they aren't available in Canada now, but they were available late last year (including Christmas) in Canada!

Dunno 'bout you, but personally I like my iPod and PSP.

Canada is in America, North America to be exact. I think you must be referring to the United States.

You have that quite wrong.

Canada is located in North America part of The Americas.

However it is not located in America.

There is a difference.

OK, so tell me what the "of" in "United States of America" means?
I guess I don't know.
But the "wink" I used was due to several of my Canadian friends not liking the US called simply "America",
as is also mentioned here, so I just thought is was being comical.

United States is a country located in a continent called America.
America is a synonym of The Americas.

And, for some reason, the habitants of the United States give the term America two meanings: as a continent and as their homeland.

From Answers.com:

America [for Amerigo Vespucci], the lands of the Western Hemisphere—North America, Central (or Middle) America, and South America. The world map published in 1507 by Martin Waldseemüller is the first known cartographic use of the name. In English, America and American are frequently used to refer only to the United States.

The noun America has 2 meanings:

Meaning #1: North American republic containing 50 states - 48 conterminous states in North America plus Alaska in northwest North America and the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean; achieved independence in 1776
Synonyms: United States, United States of America, US, U.S., USA, U.S.A.

Meaning #2: North and South America
Synonym: the Americas

From Answers.com:

[i]America [for Amerigo Vespucci]

All that Martin Waldseemuller stuff is purely for what is now known as South America simply because he bunged "America" on it as a shorthand version of (translated from German) "Land discovered by Amerigo Vespucci" of which part he made a Latinate version of his first name. He "changed" his mind a few years later because he'd never meant it to be an actual name for the landmass, just a temporary one (like Chicago -> Windows 95)

#4.1 Spartan_X on 20 Mar 2007 - 20:33
I did... any problem with that?
#4.2 MightyJordan on 20 Mar 2007 - 20:44
I got one as well, and I'm in the UK. I couldn't wait a bloody year for it, so I got it off eBay, and unlike the iPod, I've had no problems whatsoever atm.

I love how people call things crap, but have they actually used it? Or do they just call everything MS makes crap? Is that still the 'in' thing to do? Whatever the case, so the update isn't here yet, did MS ever give an official release date for it? I don't think so. Just wait and it'll be here soon like they said.

I don't want to sound like a grammar Nazi, but shouldn't it be "Disappoints" and not "Disapoints" ?

Wow, just wow.

This was NOT posted by anyone on the Zune team. It was a person who claims to have someone on the inside.

IT WAS NEVER OFFICIAL. As for all things that aren't official, IT SHOULDN'T BE TAKEN WORTH A GRAIN OF SALT.

Well the world will surely end... a firmware that wasn't released exactly on the day it was supposed to... I'm sure eveyron has such busy lives they won't be able to donwload and install it when it's released a little later...

sometimes thigns pop up at the last second, and an executiuve decision is made to delay the release untill it is fixed.

Nope, mine is working just fine as well. However, I've only loaded it with music I've ripped from my CD collection so I can't speak on the Marketplace skipping issues.
#15 intrinity1 on 21 Mar 2007 - 14:47
mine skips a little but this thing is awesome. At first I thought the marketplace sucked because it was different. But after getting used to it and learning how to use it right, its awesome. Zune is #1 for me!

I LOVE MY ZUNE!

i just wish microsoft would hand over its full potential.
i took a look at zuneloc.dll and others with ResHacker,
and there is dialogs for stuff like:

synchronized lyrics
podcast (url)
wireless syncing
and more...

it gets so aggrivating waiting on microsoft.
