At its Small Business Summit, Microsoft Corporation announced it is offering small businesses a seven-day free trial of business credit-report checks and a six-month trial of Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, as long as they are willing to take part in the Windows Genuine Advantage program (for Windows 2000 or Windows XP). The software giant is offering the credit-report service through a Credit.net service that lets businesses quickly check the credit of vendors they are looking to do business with, the company said. Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 is note-taking software that includes a voice-recording function so users can ensure they take accurate meeting notes. Small businesses also have access to free downloads of Microsoft Windows Defender, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer V2.0, Microsoft Software Inventory Analyzer and Photo Story 3 for Windows through WGA, Microsoft said.

While I see it as a good idea for Microsoft to do, they should make the incentive a little more attractive to the majority of small businesses.

A seven day trial of something that many companies should already have access to, in one form or another, anyway, and then a trial in OneNote? I think they're going to have to try a little harder. Trial software just isn't going to cut it I fear.

Sounds about as valuable as the 8x10 photocopy of a "certificate of appreciation" I got in the mail yesterday for beta testing Office. What next, they going to have a garage sale in Redmond?

let me get this right. trial copies aka cripleware are a bonus for having microsoft install a low jack spyware app on you pc.
