AMD has cut prices on its high-end dual-core desktop processors and has announced its new restructuring plans to compensate for reduced quarterly revenue. As usual, prices are in 1,000 unit quantities. The price cuts affect AMD Athlon 64 X2 for single processor desktops and Athlon 64 FX Quad FX processors. Quad FX Athlon 64 FX-74 and FX-72 processors prices drop to $799 and $599 from $999 and $799, respectively. AMD no longer lists the Athlon 64 FX70, the lowest priced pair of Quad FX processors, in its price list. All AMD Athlon 64 X2 processors are now priced under $250:

I think AMD finally found a sweet spot against the C2D--for now.
E6700 - $509
6000+ - $239! (Newegg)
You might be better off getting a 5600+ for $189 though, because it can be overclocked to 6000+ speeds.
Only trouble is (for AMD), Intel is about to cut prices and release new C2Ds within weeks.
Anyway, it's also the fact that the 6000+ can only compete with the E6600...

E6600 kick it with little overclock

Sad thing is, even with the new Barcelona cores, AMD will only manage to match Intels current Core2s in single and dual socket setups. And take the lead in 4 socket, but that's always been the case because of Hypertransport and the memory controller on the cpus.
This little push won't last though, Intels new 45nm is coming, and they're moving the FSB up to 1600mhz, won't do much for 4S systems, but 1S and 2S will see a big boost when it comes to memory heavy work.
Whatever the case, although price cuts are good for us, if AMD keeps cutting at this rate, they'll cut themselves out of business.

Dont forget that intel is going to start putting the memory controller in its processors also starting with the extreme edition of its processors.
although one must come down in price to force the other to
I was thinking of building a new system for myself and giving this rig to my daughter, be nice to get them for the equivalent.
