- MS isn't giving any time-frames related to Vista...they learned the hard way. But I expected it a little sooner, though as long as its ready I don't mind the extra wait.

- Yeah, avoid being blamed for delays! haha

- i cant blame MS at all for not wanting to give any type of time frame on any release. there are far too many veriables. the OCT-NOV time frame was probably only given to intel because they asked, and MS probably felt compelled to give them 'some' answer, rather, any answer.
i like this line though,
But the [Vista] deployment [in enterprises] will actually happen when the Service Pack gets released
in other words, no big company things it even qualifies as an OS untill SP1.
take heed.

- I nearly died laughing when I read this story.

I knew SP1 was coming but Microsoft refused to talk about it because it didn't want people to think Vista was flawed. LOL This story has really made my day just that much better. -

- I kinda chuckled at your personal vendetta against Vista. A typical case of a company denying any speculation of release dates somehow makes you feel all warm inside.

- That is pretty funny that Intel's CEO gave out a Microsoft secret without even realizing it. I wonder if Microsoft is actually mad about it or if they don't really care.

- I guess every company waits - no matter how good the newly introduced OS is - for SP1 or later.
This may mean that most of the bugs are gone and usability has gone up.
In most cases this is correct I guess.
However, with Vista tested through and through by a lot of people plus the lots of beta versions... I guess (based on reviews) they made a good OS (some drivers are lacking or flawed, but okay)
Awating for my Vista Ultimate....
... to be installed next week!

- Godd**** just give me windows xp sp3 or an update rollup or something already, 129 meg of update is way to much. How hard can it be to fork a few dude from vista r&d...

- MSFT already has a Team they could use. It's the Team that just finished the Server 2003/ XP 64 SP2 Beta.

The Windows team doesn't work on the Service Packs, though they did on XP SP2, that was a one time thing only. The team in charge of service packs is the tech support area of MS from what I remember.

- I think he meant fourth quarter 2009, but at the current pace of windoze development, it might as well be 2090.

- Nono, 2900!! It'll be out in year 2900... *sigh*
With "current pace" of development, do you mean the pace 3-4 years ago, or the pace now after Server 2003 SP1 has been released too? Longhorn was delayed due to a major shift in focus which I agree was a planning mistake on MS' part, as well at XP SP2 that took away developers. However, nothing is really indicating it'll happen with Vista SP1.

- How is that a leak? He said "probably" as if he were guessing, and it's a reasonable guess given available information - though a guess (even an educated one) is far from concrete details.

- I don't expect Microsoft to say otherwise...the last thing they want is for the public to wait and buy Vista when SP1 DVD comes out.
that will be a loss in revenue in the current quaters sales.
lol and that would mean they admit that the version on the shelves now have many flaws.

- I don't see how this is a leak.
I thought it was common knowledge already that SP1 for Vista was going to come out in late 2007. It's been hinted at more than a few times by people within Microsoft. An Intel guy says it and people say: zOMG SP1 IN 4TH QUARTER???!!!!???!!?

- humm... i think i may install vista this fourth quarter 2007.

- They might sell 3 or 4 more copies in China after the service pack is released...
-
#13 Posted by Smigit on 20 Apr 2007 - 03:57
- Yeah as per some post above I thought it was common knowledge that it was a 4th Quater release most likely. MS havent given a set date too but I still thought it was a Q4 thing by pretty much every indication we've had. And the quote says "probably Oct Nov" meaning he doesnt know either so really it sounds like an educated guess based on information that was for all I've been aware available for a long time. I mean if they are aiming for Q4 obviously MS would want it available BEFORE the holiday season since many business shut down to an extent for the break which would give IT guys an opportune time to roll out the update in time for the new year.

- Longhorn Server should reach Beta 3 by the end of April or first part of May. Then RC1 and maybe
RC2. RTM in Oct. So Vista SP1 fits the time frame of Oct.
A lot of people have said they are waiting for Vista SP1 before they upgrade
to Vista. It would be in MSFT's best interest to have Vista SP1 done in time
for the 2007 Christmas Season.

- but is service pack one actually going to have anything different in it from updates that have alreay been released over windows update? isnt basically just a rollup of all updates to that time?
-
#16 Posted by Jugalator on 20 Apr 2007 - 06:55
- The reason MS being "stubborn" like that is because it's still so early that the date might change. That's why they don't want to give false expectations.
-
#17 Posted by mayamaniac on 20 Apr 2007 - 08:28
- expect an MS exec to accidentally release a secret about intel soon.

- My officially unofficial source, who knows a friend of a friend of a friend who bought a pet from a guy who used to work at Microsoft said that SP1 will be released on October 32, 2007 at precisely 1:61 PM.
But seriously, we all have pretty much read that sometime closer to the end of the year it will be out. Can't people be content enough with that?

Even after Otellini’s leak, Microsoft stubbornly continued to keep any information under wraps. "It's too early to provide any firm date range for SP1's delivery. We will continue to take customer feedback from programs like the TAP [Technology Adoption Program], and will ultimately determine an official delivery date as the service pack is nearer to completion," said a company spokeswoman. The spokeswoman did not reply to a request to confirm the accuracy of Ortellin's SP1 schedule.
