Thanks to the simultaneous release of Windows Vista and Office 2007, Microsoft Corporation has managed a 65% profit increase in its fiscal third-quarter. The world's biggest software maker said it earned a record-high $4.93 billion, or 50 cents a share, in the period ended March 31, compared to $2.98 billion, or 29 cents a share, during the period a year earlier. Meanwhile, revenue rose to $14.4 billion from $10.9 billion. Because of the software releases, analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial projected Microsoft’s monetary numbers to be particularly high. They underestimated, however, as they expected Microsoft to earn 46 cents a share, on revenue of $13.89 billion.

Good to hear that...so after this christmas season the profit will increase more too i guess..

Zune 2+zune phone (but sure for this christmas season), XBOX 360 extenders, windows live games, vista (SP1) released, office 2007 reaching everyone.

And also, i am very eager to see Apple's revenue after this Christmas season..because they too have Leopard, iPhone, iWork 07(not sure the date) etc...

Good news from tech companies!

Let's not hear them complain with a financial loss due to piracy now.

the fact that microsoft made it so easy to throw windows 95 of any computer, and never enforced "one per computer" rules is what secured the market in the first place.

Don't forget Games For Windows Live will help to, and also Halo 3 when it hits the 360 Scene.

jesus christ $4 billion in one quarter straight profit.....software is definately overpriced . Just on a side note, and not necessarily directed as Microsoft, I find it amazing that as a whole corporate america is making record profits, but not equally sharing it with their employees, wonder when that's going to change, when companies are going to start caring about their employees as well.

They do not have necessarily obligation to share with employees... are you a shareholder though? MS should be definitely paying some dividends...

when i say sharing I mean doing things like guaranting health care, giving at the least cost of living pay raises, actually rewarding people for their hard work...I don't mean that they should cut $1000 checks for every employee. there use to be a time when companies took care of their employees and rewarded loyality...just doesn't seem to be there anymore.

Microsoft has some of the best employee benefits of any employer, so I don't really see how you can justify your claim.

Indeed, MS is considered a great place to work at with high salaries and benefits as well as high quality working space

revenue is not "straight profit".

the first post said it wasn't necessarily directed at MS...you missed that, it was generally speaking about corporate profits.

Don't think he was referring to revenue. News post says 14.4 billion in revenue. 4.93 in profit.

It just goes to show that even with an inferior/defective, rushed out the door, rebuilt from scratch twice, minor (as far as the end user is concerned) upgrade, a company can still make a TON of cash as long as their product is massively overpriced AND people have no choice to buy because the company has obtained a complete market monopoly. sigh.
