Mexico, EU ask to join piracy talks with China

By filing requests with the World Trade Organization, the European Union and Mexico have shown their hope to join Japan and Canada in helping the United States add pressure against China over increasing piracy concerns. The requests came just a few weeks after the US Trade Representative Susan Schwab filed two complaints with the WTO in which the US government cited China's "inadequate protection of intellectual-property rights," despite the country's recent promises to crack down more heavily on piracy. The results of those promises, plus previous efforts to pressure China into taking IP protections more seriously, have been decidedly unimpressive from the United States' point of view.

China reacted negatively to the USTR's complaint with the WTO: "We will fight to the last minute," said Vice Premier Wu Yi. Despite this seemingly aggressive response, she still added that the Chinese government would be "more resolute, adopt more measures, and step up IPR protection." As per the WTO's policy with new cases, member countries have 60 days to ask for permission to join the talks. China can choose to reject Mexico's and the EU's requests, but cannot prevent any of the WTO's members from initiating their own complaints.

HAHA ROFL! Mexico!

When I was in Mexico for this past spring break, the hotel we stayed in ( which was actually a really nice Las Vegas type condo) had pirated movies under the big plasma hanging on the wall.

They had a pretty good selection of some pretty recent movies -- all pirated -- all right there in the hotel.

they should start fighting piracy in their own country first instead opening their mouth.

Mexico can't even help themselves, how can they help China curb piracy?

The whole thing is a farce. Mexico is just adding to the farce because they want to play with the big boys and pretend they are a player on the world stage.

LOL! Are you calling me a prostitute? The social and political situation of Mexico is chaos mate. The whole system is deeply corruption from drug trafficking that has burrowed into Mexican society, infiltrating and subverting the government at all levels as well as the the various Mexican law enforcement agencies and the military....Drug cartels are huge and pay off police and the government. The government tries to act all noble to the world but the but it is just another layer of deception and corruption....

The Mexican government is a joke, they fill there pockets while most of the country lives in poverty. They have bigger problems and piracy is not one of them. How about human rights, and a real democracy.

True that! and how about stopping police corruption so that they don't steal the tourist's dollars! ( happened to me).

OH, and umm... how about some search and seizure laws?

I know when ever we went to Mexico, pay out to the police was all part of the trip. It happened every time.
