To combat movie piracy in the Asian Pacific countries, Warner Bros. announced plans to launch a new movie download service dubbed 08Media in Hong Kong. ViDeOnline Communications will offer the service initially with 100 titles (such as the Harry Potter franchise and Superman Returns) while additional titles may also hit 08Media the day of the theatrical release. In Hong Kong, selling bootlegged movies is a big business, one that Warner Bros. hopes to fight. "This deal fits perfectly with our philosophy of providing consumers around the world with access to our world-class entertainment," said president of Warner Bros. Jeffrey Schlesinger. As of now, no prices have been announced for movies on 08Media.

So, they -- WB -- will stop doing preview screenings in Canada, because of piracy...which has not been proven; yet they'll offer movies for download in Asia which is the piracy capital of the world. Some things just do not make any sense!

So why are they not doing this worldwide?
