Amazon.com, the world’s leading online retailer, has acquired dpreview.com – a hobby site started by Phil Askey in 1998 that now on a monthly basis, receives seven million unique visitors (over 22 million sessions) who read over 120 million pages on digital cameras and digital photography. Touted as the web’s most comprehensive site for features and specifications, Dpreview provides unbiased reviews and original content of the latest digital cameras and accessories and offers a host of features such as digital photography and imaging news, active discussion forums, sample images, a dynamic digital camera buyers’ guide and side-by-side comparisons of the most popular models. Dpreview.com will continue to function as a stand-alone operation based in London.

Dpreview.com is by far the most authoritative source anywhere for straight talk about new digital cameras. We at Amazon.com have been their fans for a long time, and we extend a big welcome to the dpreview.com team,” said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com.

call me liberal but corporate buyouts of small community sites usually end in tears

I hope this is an exception because dpreview is/was an excellent site.

yea, lets hope they stay un-biased... they have such great info, don't want to see it get tainted by advertisers...

Yeah this is an odd buy. Great site but I'm unsure why Amazon would want them. I suppose they may be able to sell a few more cameras by not only using advertising space on dpreview.com but by having some nicer reviews on amazon.com.
