PC came from IBM Personal Computer or IBM PC, for example IBM PC XT, IBM PC AT, IBM PCjr.

With the arise of the clones, a PC was by default a IBM machine but a PC Clone for the rest of builders.

And year later, a PC was a denomation for all IBM PC Compatible machine, IBM PC original and clones.

So a MAC can or cannot be a PC compatible, it's compatible if can runs the same applications (nativelly) that a PC original and clone. So if MAC runs windows then MAC is a PC otherwise is just a microcomputer.

Why not go buy an external HDD? That's what I did for my Compaq. I stuck the 40 gig it came with in an external enclosure. It's not much, but it helps. :-)

I also was stuck with 60GB until I bought a 160GB 5400rpm 2,5" sata disk and an enclosure for the 60GB disk. It costs some money but the extra GBs really make a difference.

Agreed, up the ram to 2gb on this THIRTEEN inch wimptop and you basically have the same price as the SEVENTEEN inch Dell which includes Vista Home Premium, 6-8 hours of battery life, more features, same drive, better graphics, etc. etc.

It's a Mac compared to a Dell. What do you expect? (Note: I'm not saying Macs are good and Dells are bad, I'm saying Dell products are some of the cheapest on the market and Macs are some of the most expensive.)

You aren't forced to buy it. Yes it is overpriced, but Apple apparently thinks it can still get its customers at such pricing, so why should you worry for it? And also, there is more to a computer than the specs - system software, industrial design (whether you care or not), etc.

Heh. Maybe it's off by a good 100 bucks, but still... even if the update isn't THAT big, it's still really worth it. I'm pretty sure they're keeping Core 2 for entry models (like Mac Mini and MacBook) and Santa Rosa for middle-range models (iMac and MacBook Pro).

Seriously? It comes with Vista, which is a detractor for a lot of people. It also comes with a smaller harddrive, a MUCH slower pricessor, slower bus, same ram. Granted it does have a faster video card, which is needed to power the SEVENTEEN inch screen. It does NOT have 6-8 hours of battery life. Based upon reviews, it's less than three, which is less than the Macbook. More features? Like what? That it weights almost double what the Macbook does? And yours is supposed to be a desktop replacement!

Now Macs aren't the end all, be all when it comes to computers, but I just don't see a Dell that compares. Perhaps there's a smaller model I didn't look at that is closer.

nX07, did you just compare pricing between a desktop and a laptop? Surely that can't be because no body could make that stupid of a comparison.

You need a little * next to the 2GB DDR2 Exp. to 8GB... Vista, XP, 2000, etc, will not recognize more than 3gig (well, it's like 3.2), due to the limit of the 32bit OS. Vista Ultimate 64bit will, but so far, I've never seen any systems actually shipping with the 64bit version, at least not in retail.

But as the person above me said... thats compairing a notebook to a desktop.

But, to compare real systems... I'm actually going to be using the MacBook in conjunction with my GW2K MP6954 notebook:
Core Duo T2050 (1.6)
2gig DDR2 (maybe I'll swap the ram around)
Vista Ultimate
15.4in LCD
5hr battery life (8cell)

Why? Because I grew up on Macs, and well, it weighs less, and is easier to fit in a datacenter cabinet to work on stuff.
Plus, Parallels 3 will let me run the Windows software I need to work... and, I dont need it for gaming. Notebooks will never really be as good as desktops for gaming... you can pack in a highend notebook vidcard, but a SLI NV8800 system will still beat it. Notebooks just cant dissipate enough heat to work super highend stuff.

very true, your OS is all a matter of personal taste but making hardware more expensive because of the OS thats on it isnt justifiable at all, if Apple could give us a concrete reason why we should pay more for a computer with the exact same parts then maybe mroe people would buy them but so far "Macs are awesome, Windows sucks" hasn't served as a good enough reason (for most people).

Macs are more reliable than PCs (except Lenovo's Thinkpads)...

Even if you're used to using Windows for years, it doesn't mean that you won't enjoy using a Mac more - I've had many of my customers who have switched from Windows to Mac (without me suggesting it) and they've all been very happy (and most are now ex-customers sadly!...

Sure its not for everyone, but perhaps people should try a Mac for a while before you slag it off...

I wasn't arguing about which OS is better and like I said it's personal taste, I like Windows and Linux but I don't like Mac (yes I've used it), whatever, my point was even if OSX is better hardware shouldnt cost more because of the software that runs on it. And I dont see how Macs can be more reliable if most of their parts are exactly the same as PC parts.
